Football ManCity120Liverpool clash with Manchester City in the Community Shield on Saturday and @Olimp_SA have a preview including betting tips

2021/2022 EPL Champions Manchester City and the runner up Liverpool side go head-to-head on Saturday evening at the King Power Stadium as they battle for the first set of the 2022/2023 silverware.

Liverpool

Following a season they can look back on and certainly aim slightly higher for the next, Liverpool had a reasonable amount of pre-season fixtures to build-up the right match fitness going into the 2022/2023 season. The Reds started their Asia tour with an unexpected 4-0 defeat to Manchester United, but recovered with a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace and a 5-0 victory over RB Leipzig. However, they failed to convince their fans of their positive form after taking a slim 1-0 defeat to Red Bull Salzburg thanks so a first-half goal from the 19-year old Benjamin Šeško.

Klopp has been fairly slow in the transfer window – understandably after making an £85m club record transfer of Darwin Núñez from Benfica, in addition to Calvin Ramsay and Fabio Carvalho. Although Darwin has bagged himself 4 goals against RB Leipzig, the Uruguayan has not looked the best and has large shoes to fill of Sadio Mane, who made his transfer to the Bavarians Bundesliga outfit and I believe is a pivotal blow to Klopp`s side. Overall, Liverpool`s pre-season is not a definite indication of the squad`s abilities and with the stakes being higher in the Community Shield I am certain that we will see a strong performance from the Reds, although there is some work to be done on the training grounds this week.

Manchester City

The Premier League Champions opted for a slightly relaxed pre-season playing just 2 pre-season games before the commencement of the 2022/2023 season. However, the Citizens were tasked with a match against a heavyweight side that Bayern Munich is, which they managed to win by one goal coming from non-other than Erling Haaland. Prior to their victory over the Bavarians, they secured a 2-1 victory over a Mexican side Club América with 2 goals coming from Kevin de Bruyne.

The Citizens` highlights from the transfer window have been of the arrival of Erling Haaland, Kalvin Phillips and Julian Lavarez, while the outgoings consisted of Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko. Nevertheless, Pep`s camp still looks extremely strong with the signings all making reinforcements in the necessary areas. Overall, there is not much to say about the Manchester outfit as they`ve only played 2 pre-season games, but from those 2 it is clear that Pep`s side is still one of Europe`s forces from last season with new and improved reinforcements.

Verdict

The contesting sides are arguably 2 of the best Premier League sides that we`ve seen in the last 5 years. Liverpool has spent a large sum of money on a single player while losing one of their best attackers that is Sadio Mane. The Reds have showed small leaks throughout the pre-season, while Manchester City look like the side that have made the right recruitments and played a fairly good pre-season. Nevertheless, pre-season should not be taken as a definite indication of the 2 sides and I believe that we will see yet another incredible performance from the 2 sides in a captivating clash for the Community Shield.
