Arsenal vs Leicester Preview – 13th August, 16:00

Arsenal will be looking to build on their successful Premier League start as they host Leicester at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Arsenal

Arsenal have kicked their season-off with a positive start beating Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park last weekend. The Gunners did not necessarily provide a dominating performance statistically as the sides were fairly even on the day with the Eagles leading in possession and both sides equaling in total shots and big chances created but watching the game Arsenal had the clear edge over the opponents. Nevertheless, Mikel Arteta`s side proved efficient with Gabriel Martinelli netting one past Vicente Guaita alongside Marc Guehi who slotted a goal past his own goalkeeper.

Going into Saturday`s clash with Leicester, Arsenal find themselves 3 on the Premier League table with current odds being in heavy favor of the London side. From last weekend it seems that Arteta has established his attacking force consisting of Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka – a trio that can certainly deliver the necessary damage against the Leicester side.

Keeping a clean sheet, the Arsenal defense has also proved to hold their own with William Saliba receiving the Man of the Match award on his Premier League debut. Additionally, the Arsenal midfield completes the right balance of this side as they managed to control the opening play last weekend. Overall, Arteta`s camp has bolstered their confidence last weekend and we can most likely expect them to deliver another impressive performance on Saturday.

Leicester

Leicester had a slow start to their season after being held to a 2-2 draw against Brentford. Contrary to the results, the Foxes dominated Brentford in almost all aspect of the game, however their lack of concentration in the last half an hour of the game has led to Ivan Toney pulling one back in the 62’ minute and Joshua Dasilva netting the equalizer. Brendan Rodgers is yet to finalize his squad for the season as his star midfielder Youri Tielemans sitting on the brink of a potential transfer to Arsenal and an anchor in defense Wesley Fofana being linked with a West London move to Chelsea.

Nevertheless, currently Rodgers is preparing for a Saturday afternoon with both players in the squad. The Foxes were impressive in the first half against Brentford, with Kiernan Drewsbury-Hall and Timothy Castagne netting 2 past David Raya and although their leading striker Jamie Vardy has failed to register himself a season-opening goal, he was involved with an assist alongside James Maddison.

The Foxes are likely to be a great threat with their counter-attacking play against the Gunners, however their backline trio has showed a drop in focus in the final stages of the game on Sunday and can be the catalyst to missing out on points on Saturday afternoon.

Verdict

Leicester have showed hints of great football against Brentford but couldn’t follow through to secure the 3 points. Although they do have a good side going to London, Arsenal have proven to be a side-to-watch this season and with the camp receiving a confidence boost over the weekend the London outfit are likely to take the 3 points on Saturday.
