Chelsea vs West Ham Preview: 24th of April, 15:00

Chelsea is set to welcome the neighboring West Ham to Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.

Chelsea

Chelsea have suffered a blow to their campaign in the mid-week Premier League action as they were dismantled in a 4-2 loss against Arsenal. Having lost 3 consecutive home games and conceding 11 goals in the respective matches, they are now tasked with extending their 3rd spot lead against West Ham United. Coming into the end bit of the season, Tuchel will now be looking over his shoulder with the likes of Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester United and West Ham all taking their bids on securing a Top 4 spot. Timo Werner seemed to find his rhythm in the last few games, adding another goal to his name against Arsenal and can be regarded as one of the players to watch on Sunday. Overall, Chelsea has enough young talent upfront to get past the Hammers, but their backline has been rather shaky, and the London neighbors will capitalize on the opportunities if they are handed to them.

West Ham

The pressure is mounting on David Moyes as a loss at Stamford Bridge can end their ambitious bid for a Top 4 spot. West Ham has been very impressive in the Europa League this season as they now find themselves in the semi-finals, however Europa League can be their last shot at securing a spot in the next season`s Champions League campaign if they are to lose on Sunday. They have won just 1 of their last 4 Premier League games and a 1-1 draw against Burnley in their last game did not give them any confidence boosts ahead of a major Chelsea challenge. Outside of the European action, the Hammers have failed to do any significant damage to their opponents in terms of goals scored and if Tuchel is to pull his backline together, they will have a frustrating afternoon on Sunday.

Verdict

Chelsea is still in a strong position in the Premier League and are definitely able to extend their lead on Sunday if Tuchel does a few tweaks to his defensive line. West Ham are on the brink of exiting the Top 4 race and with their recent Premier League scoring form it is difficult to see them leaving Stamford Bridge with all 3 points.
