Chelsea and Real Madrid meet again in a repeat of the 2020-2021 Champions League semi-finals on Wednesday at Stamford Bridge - this time in the last 8 of the competition.
Chelsea
Despite ownership doubts within the club, Chelsea`s Champions League title defense has been a smooth ride so far - breezing past Lille in the Round of 16 with a 4-1 aggregate win. The Blues have been playing in a superb domestic form up until last weekend`s shock 4-1 defeat to Brentford which they will need to shake-off quickly going into a bout against a strong Spanish side. Tuchel will certainly be expecting a quick reaction from his team as even a slight hint of Saturday`s display will be a fun-time for Benzema & Co.
Real Madrid
Real Madrid became the latest European team to add to PSG`s countless knock-out stage exits, edging past the French side in a dramatic comeback and a 3-2 aggregate score. The 13-time Champions League holders subsequently came crashing down in an ego-crushing 4-0 defeat to Barcelona but they have managed to bounce back with a recent 2-1 victory against Celta Vigo. Ancelotti will have majority of his arsenal available for the London trip and a player to keep an eye out for will certainly be Karim Benzema who fired a hattrick past PSG in their second leg bout and can cause many problems for Chelsea`s backline.
Verdict
Looking at H2H Chelsea have not lost any of their last 5 meetings against Real Madrid but they will need to put in extra focus following the Brentford disaster. Both sides are equally matched on paper, and I don`t think either of them will compromise their defense to go all out attack in the first leg with the decisive game most likely being in Madrid.
