UCL Qualifiers First Leg – Rangers vs PSV, 16 August; 21:00

The Champions League Qualifiers will be delivering us another exciting clash tomorrow evening as Rangers and PSV clash heads under the Ibrox flood lights.

Rangers

After surprisingly reaching the 2021/2022 Europa League final, Rangers have established themselves as an exciting prospect on the European stage and are not finding themselves in the 4th round of the Champions League qualifiers. Yet again the Glasgow outfit showed ambition in their campaign after coming back against a 2-0 first-leg defeat against Royale Union Saint Gilloise to win in the second leg with 3-2 victory on aggregate. Goals from James Tavernier, Antonio Čolak and Malik Tilaman ensured that they progress into the next round.

The Scottish side then proceeded to carry the same momentum into their domestic campaign, where they dismantled St. Johnstone by 4 goals. The Saturday victory marked van Bronckhorst side`s 3rd consecutive Scottish premiership victory and they now find themselves sitting 2nd on the tables with just goal difference separating them from Celtic. Antonio Čolak has enjoyed a good run of form in the attack – scoring 3 in his last 3 appearance and will certainly be a cause for concern for PSV. Although the Rangers side have showed efficient attack and a resilient defensive line, Tuesday night match-up sees them going against a fairly-well matched PSV side.

PSV

PSV put on an exciting performance last Tuesday in their 3rd round second-leg fixture against Monaco after settling for a 1-1 draw in the first leg. The 2 sides took an all-out approach on the evening - both going for the throat, however, goals from Joey Veerman, Erick Gutiérrez and Luuk de Jong secured the Dutch side a 3-2 victory on the day.

Ruud van Nistelrooy`s side then went on to continue their consistent form beating Go Ahead Eagles in 5-1 victory in their Eredivisie bout, where Joey Veerman and Luuk de Jong yet again added their names onto the scoresheet.

In addition to the dangerous duo, PSV have also benefited from the prolific Xavi Simons in the attacking midfield, who registered 2 goals and an assist on the day and now has a good shot of starting on Tuesday night. Looking at the PSV side, their attacking excellence is at the highest level. The Dutch side is also now running on 7-game winning streak across all competitions which will certainly confidence boost travelling to Glasgow.

Verdict

Playing on the home-stage at the Ibrox in Glasgow will certainly be the match to light a fire within the Rangers squad, who are already prolific in front of goal and are confident in taking on a difficult opposition. However, they are met with an in-form and exciting PSV squad who seem to have one of the most exciting attacking forces of the qualifiers tournament. Although it is difficult to call a winner, I do see a high-scoring game tomorrow night and certainly one you would not want to miss.
