BOURNEMOUTH VS WEST HAM, SATURDAY @ 16:00

The Cherries and the Hammers return to Premier League action this weekend after both teams were shockingly knocked out of the League Cup by lower league opposition. Bournemouth had an excellent away victory last weekend against local rivals Southampton, but lost 2-0 against Burton on Wednesday evening. West Ham had the near perfect performance against Manchester United last weekend, winning 2-0 at home. Wednesday night was the exact opposite as they lost 4-0 away to Oxford United. Both sets of fans were very disappointed with the cup result, as they know it will be one of their only opportunities to win a trophy this season. Howe and Pellegrini will demand a response from their players going into Saturday’s game. The bookmakers are predicting a goal fest, with the goal line number sitting at 3 and you will be brave betting on under in this one, as both teams are playing excellent attacking football in the Premier League.

BOURNEMOUTH:

Bournemouth made us some money last weekend and played some excellent football. The away victory over Southampton was the first one ever in Premier League history. Their last home game was a convincing win over Everton and Howe is once again taking plaudits from everyone. Bournemouth has now scored 3 goals in their last 2 Premier League matches and have been a joy to watch. Personally, I’m not reading too much into their league cup defeat, as the team was made up of fringe and youth players. So far this season their expected goals statistics are: xGf – 1.43 and xGa – 2.2, they have been clinical up front, but could have conceded more goals this season. There is no new injury concerns for the Cherries and we should see them going with the same team that won away at St Mary’s.

WEST HAM:

If you want to sum up West Ham, these last 2 games will be the perfect example, outplaying Manchester United and getting thumped by a league 1 club. Yes, West Ham also made a number of changes, but fans were expecting a cup run this season as they Hammers have a very strong squad. West Ham has been brilliant in the league after their opening day defeat to Manchester City, unbeaten and they haven’t conceded a goal in their last 3 matches. Their expected goals are as follows: xGf – 1.59 and xGa – 1.95, they have also been clinical in front of goal, but some might say lucky not to concede more. There are no new injury concerns for West Ham, but Lanzini is doubtful for the match. West Ham will also return to their regular starters for the game on Saturday.

PREDICTION:

Goals? Yes, please lads. I expect this to be a classic Premier League game with both teams playing without fear. Both managers will feel they have the attacking abilities to win this game and set up their team to stay on the front foot. I expect both teams will start conceding goals this season because of their style of football and this is the weekend for it. Both teams will want a bounce back after the disappointing cup exit and this is the game both sides will need to win if they want to finish in the top 10. I predict a minimum of 3 goals here and hopefully more.
