Couch Critic previews the Super Rugby Aotearoa match between the Chiefs and Crusaders including best bets with @Olimp_SA
Chiefs vs Crusaders – Saturday 01 August @ 09:05, Hamilton
The impossible happened last weekend as the Hurricanes were able to successfully penetrate the fortress that is Christchurch and hand the mighty Crusaders a rare home defeat. The Chiefs for their part suffered yet another heart-breaking defeat, again off the back of a rather dubious refereeing decision. The Chiefs are rooted to the bottom of the table and the Crusaders are still in top spot.
In their last home game of the 2020 campaign Aaron Cruden is handed back the starting 10 jumper for his centenary match. Anton Lienert-Brown will continue at thirteen, but the Chiefs will miss Alaimalo for this clash. The Crusaders go in search of a re-bound win without Tom Moody in their ranks and the loosies look a bit untested. Fetuli Paea didn’t exactly convince as the stand-in centre last week.
The Chiefs loosies will look to get stuck in big time and over shadow their opponents as carriers, as scrappers at the breakdown and as tacklers. After this ALB will look to target the inexperienced Paea. The Crusaders will look to ride out the initial sting of inspiration and motivation form the home side before unleashing their own clinical, slow poison led by the sublime pivot, Mo’unga.
It’s tough knowing whether the Chiefs will finally capitulate after all the near losses or whether this is the week they can finally get the rub of the green and manage to hang on for a rare victory over the Crusaders. I am banking on a strong first half effort from the Chiefs but I’m not convinced they can maintain this for the full 80 minutes.
