Western Province got us off to a nice start last week but the Cheetahs and Lions were in no mood to ensure a profitable weekend. The Free Staters coughed up a ball at the very end of the first half and conceded an 80 meter breakout score which sunk my HT/FT play. The Lions for their part weren’t able to capitalise on a one-man advantage on their own home turf… But, the show must go on!

Griquas vs Western Province (Friday @ 19:15) – Kimberley

Griquas have had a week to plot and plan how they are going to go about tripping up the big union whilst John Dobson’s team has been disrupted by Springbok call-ups in the shape of Scarra Ntubeni, Dillyn Leyds and Wilco Louw.

The men from the Northern Cape find themselves in second place on the log but will know that home ground advantage for the semi-finals will be crucial and as such they need to win one of their remaining two games at the very least. Province showed us some of their attacking best last week but there is a big difference having to try and replicate this result in Kimberley.

Verdict: I see the home side coming out all guns blazing looking to catch their high-profile visitors in a well-laid trap. It won’t surprise me if they are able to snare the result as well, but I feel the big city boys will somehow manage to get the job done in the end.

BETOLIMP Value Best: Griquas to lead at half time but WP to win the game – Griquas/WP @ 5.29

BETOLIMP Best Bet: Wester Province to win by a margin of 1-7 points @ 3.43

Special Bet: To score the last try – Damian Willemse @ 22.00 with BETOLIMP

Pumas vs Free State Cheetahs (Saturday @ 14:00) - Mbombela

After securing an emotional first victory over the Bulls a fortnight ago the Pumas came tumbling back to earth as they were humbled by Province at Newlands. Back at home they will face another team who find themselves down in the dumps after slumping to a second straight defeat.

In somewhat surprising team news Tian Meyer moves from his usual position of scrumhalf to accommodate Ruan Pienaar’s return. William Small Smith is also back for the Free Staters whilst Clayton Blommetjies can only be better off after his first outing with the team last week.

Verdict: The Pumas should be a different team back at home but Franco Smith’s chargers will be keen on getting their campaign back on track with a five pointer from this one.

BETOLIMP Best Bet: Cheetahs to beat the half time handicap of -5.5 @ 1.72

Golden Lions vs Sharks (Sunday @ 14:00) – Johannesburg

The Lions had managed to escape with three victories in their first 3 matches but when faced with the task of only having to contend with 14 opponents for the better part of an hour they seemed to run out of ideas all together.

In Durban the Sharks continued their pattern of following a shocker with an impressive outing. Team news for the Durbanites sees Coenie Oostuizen and Curwin Bosch miss the clash due to injury. The Sharks will travel to Ellispark in desperate need of picking up a win to keep them in the knockout mix whilst the Lions will be keen on staying at the sharp end of proceedings.

Verdict: The Lions will be anything but pleased with their last outing. They have to overcome a team that matches up well with them on paper in terms of young potential as well as a sprinkling of experience in spots. For mind the home team are a more harmonious team who thrive on playing for each other and I reckon that will see the Lions come out on top in this rare Sunday afternoon rugby game.

BETOLIMP Value Bet: Lions to win by 10 points or more – Lions -9.5 @ 2.54

BETOLIMP Best Bet: Lions to lead at half time and full time – Lions/Lions @ 1.86

Special Bets: First tryscorer – H Dayimani @23.00 with BETOLIMP
