Couch Critic previews the third one day international between England and Australia which takes place in Manchester on Wednesday including best bets from @Olimp_SA
ENGLAND vs AUSTRALIA - Wednesday 16 Sep, Manchester
Australia had a golden opportunity to seal the three-match series when chasing a meagre 231 set by England (and sitting pretty at 140/2 at one stage). Whilst the visitors will be disappointed in the results for fans it means a fiery decider awaits on Wednesday in Manchester.
Setting the Scene
The surprising aspect of this series has been how different players have stepped up to deliver crucial performances. In the first match Mitch Marsh and Maxwell produced the goods to get their team the victory but in the second neither could deliver anything of substance, instead it was Finch and Labuschagne that gave them the perfect platform only to let thigs slip. The Poms have seen contributions from Morgan, Bairstow and Billings.
With the ball Adam Zampa has pitched in with 7 sticks thus far whilst Hazlewood has look at the top of his game. For the home side Archer was sublime in the last game and now has six wickets to his name.
How I see it Playing Out
The Aussies have surely missed their shot by letting things slip when it was there for the taking. The hosts go into the third and final match having been well below par thus far. I’m expecting England to be much closer to their best in this final outing.
Betolimp Best Bets
There were signs that Marnus was back to the form we saw from him in 2019. Number four is the ideal spot from which to play an important innings so the price appeals.
Morgan top-scored on Sunday with a mere 42. The skipper bats at number four and is in good touch at present. The price looks too tasty to ignore.
Archer was superb in the previous match. There really is no substitute for pace and the rapid Jofra had the men from Down Under dodging and weaving the last time out in Manchester – he will be keen to keep this effort going.
