ENGLAND vs PAKISTAN - Friday 21 Aug, Southampton

Well the second test was a proper damp squid and we look ahead to the series decider hoping the English weather finally gives us an opportunity to enjoy some quality cricket (and have a bet).

Setting the Scene

The weather stopped us from getting anything of note from the second test but the Pakistani’s will go into the final match of the series in need of a solid batting display having stuttered in their last couple of efforts at the crease against the home side’s bowling attack. Broad remains the main thorn in the side of the visitors whilst they require more support for Babar Azam from the batting unit.

For England the concern remains around finding the right balance without Ben Stokes in their ranks. On the bowling front the hosts can only benefit from having Wood or Archer in their ranks instead of Curran but batting frailties might have the selectors erring on the side of the something extra with the willow.

On the weather front there seems to still be some moisture around Southampton and we can only hope that enough play can be squeezed in for us to get our required fix of entertainment that only live sport can supply.

How I see it Playing Out

After their strong first effort in the first test the visitors have lost the plot and need to find a way to put enough runs on the board to be competitive. The visitors have a bowling attack who seem to enjoy the English conditions but this doesn’t help much if the blokes with the bats can’t get something on the board themselves.

Again, I see the ball dominating the bat in this third test, so I will be betting accordingly.

Betolimp Best Bets

Top England 1st Innings Batsman – Jos Buttler @ 11.00

I’m sticking with my thought process for the previous test on this one. With the responsibility of coming in at number six, Buttler is a juicy price in this market. I would even be tempted at taking Woakes at a huge price, but let’s stick with the in-form Jos who is also one of the better players of spin in the side.

Top Pakistan 1st Innings Batsman – Babar Azam @ 4.00

It’s clear that Babar is comfortably the best batsman in the Pakistan line-up and I want to be on him this time around.

Man of the Match - Chris Woakes @ 19.00

Woakes is in form both with ball and bat at present. He should also be batting at number 7 in this test which gives him a good opportunity to add some valuable runs.
