Warren Gatland’s Chiefs have one lost opportunity to pick up that elusive victory in Super Rugby Aotearoa as they travel to Wellington to take on the Hurricanes. The home side come into this one off the back of a bye week and just before that they achieved the seemingly impossible by tripping up the Crusaders in Christchurch.

The Hurricanes will miss Laumape in midfield but do have Dane Coles present in the middle of the frontrow. This doesn’t look the most solid pack of forwards but the Chiefs have also had their issues, there is a debutant prop for them on the bench this week. The men from Hamilton have had some serious issues at lineout time and have now waved Cruden goodbye as well. For once these looms as a clash that could be decided between the two sets of backs, as well as a feisty contest between the backrows.
Verdict
It’s been a rotten old season for the Chiefs whilst the Canes will be brimming with confidence after toppling the Crusaders. I’m expecting the visitors to leave it all in the park in the first half an hour or so but if they do go behind their heads might drop a touch as it will feel like Groundhog day all over again for the struggling Chiefs who will want to forget about 2020 in a hurry.
