Couch Critic turns his attentions to the forthcoming Super Rugby Aotearoa tournament and nails up his best outright bets with @Olimp_SA
SUPER RUGBY Aotearoa – Outright Views
The Aussie version of Super Rugby kicked off last weekend but now we have the real deal back! Aotearoa offered plenty of excitement in 2020 and promises to have us thoroughly entertained again in 2021. Here are my outright picks for the tournament.
Top Blues Tryscorer – Hoskins Sotutu @ 67.00
Lachlan Boshier, Dalton Papalii and Shannon Frizell are all looseforwards who were only outshone by Will Jordon in the tryscoring stakes last year. The Blues have a few lethal outside backs in their squad but if the meat pies get shared around a bit then the big number eight surely is a good value play given the price offered. (Dalton Papalii is also available at an attractive price of 34.00 if you prefer the other loosy).
Top Hurricanes Tryscorer – Ardie Savea @ 17.00
Savea had a quiet season last year but I’m expecting him to be back to his best. Given the captaincy armband should give him further incentive.
Top Chiefs Tryscorer – Brad Weber @ 17.00
In a struggling Chiefs side it was a disappointing season for Weber in 2020. The pocket rocket scrumhalf at his best is a tryscoring machine and the competition could be limited in this Chiefs squad.
Top Crusaders Tryscorer – Jack Goodhue @ 12.00
Like the Blues this Crusaders side is filled with tryscoring options across the park. Goodhue however is likely to play the majority of the games (whilst others could be swapped around) and it seems he will keep the 13 jumper for the duration which is where he is at his best.
Top Tournament Tryscorer – Jona Nareki @ 19.00
I’m expecting an improved season from the Highlanders and under the Dunedin roof they shouldn’t struggle to get the ball to their fire cracker winger.
Team with most losses – Hurricanes @ 4.33
I see the Canes and Chiefs contesting the wooden spoon this season. The Chiefs should be favoured to struggle the most but at this price the Canes are worth a nibble.
