SUPER RUGBY AU ROUND 10

The Brumbies and Force match so nearly delivered one of our better results thus far when Folau Fainga’a dropped over for what would have been the last try only for an over zealous TMO to rain on my parade – the Half Time / Full Time Betolimp Special did however secure us a tidy profit in Round 9. With the playoff spots all but certain Week 10 looms as a tougher week to call.

Rebels vs Force – Saturday 05 Sep @ 09:00, Newcastle

It’s the battle of the homeless in this game. Both teams have been unlucky to have had to spend the entire competition away from their respective home bases. The Rebels are the only team left with anything to play for as they are tasked with beating the Force to remain alive in the tournament. The team from the West are left with this one last opportunity to break their duck, ironically against the team they lost against in extra time (aka “Super Time”).

The Rebels come into this clash off the back of two straight losses so Coach Wessels will have his chargers well up to bounce back and build some momentum ahead of the playoffs. I expect the Melbourne side to get the job done with some room to spare on Saturday against a Force side who just haven’t been up to the challenge of rugby at this level.

Reds vs Brumbies – Saturday 05 Sep @ 11:15, Brisbane

This is very much a dead rubber as both teams are already certain of their future – finishing one and two on the final log. With the Brumbies due a break before the final they can afford to roll out their best side whilst the Reds have gone the route of also picking their best to ensure they take some continuity and momentum into the knockouts.

Both teams come into this clash off a few good showings. The Reds will fancy their chances of toppling a Brumbies side who have proven to be less effective away from Canberra. The value probably lies with the home side but these Brumbies know how to get a crucial result in a tough, grinding game.

Rebels vs Force

Rebels -14.5 @ 1.87

First Tryscorer – Isi Naisarani @ 21.50

Last Tryscorer – Lachlan Anderson @ 13.60

Anytime Tryscorer – Dane Haylett-Petty @ 2.40

For the Rebels the big number 8, Naisarani has been hitting his straps in is a constant threat off the back of the scrum. Look out for the Sevens man, Anderson, to bring plenty of energy off the bench whilst a returning Haylett-Petty should be hungry to come back in style.

Reds vs Brumbies

Brumbies to win by 1-7 points @ 3.62

Half Time / Full Time Margin – Reds (1-8) / Brumbies (1-12) @ 14.70

I’m expecting a close fight in this one despite nothing being on the line. The Brumbies strike me as the more pragmatic team so an enthusiastic Reds start could be followed by the visitors clicking into gear and grinding out a narrow victory. (I won’t be going overboard here though).
