SUPER RUGBY AU ROUND 8

Jordan Petaia opening the scoring for the Reds was the only bit of excitement we enjoyed in Round 7 as the Rebels endured the strangest second half to come up well short against the Reds whilst the Force were never good enough to challenge the Waratahs. Let’s look at what awaits in Week 8 of Rugby AU.

Force vs Reds – Friday 21 Aug @ 11:05, Gold Coast

The Force go into this clash against the Reds still looking for their first win of the competition. Unfortunately for the Westerners they still have to try and achieve this from their adapted home in Queensland. The Reds bounced back from a disappointing loss to the Tahs in Week 6 to shutting out the Rebels last week. It was a very strange game – one in which the Reds were under the pump for the entire second forty yet were somehow able to keep the Rebels from scoring.

The Reds would love to make a big move toward sealing a Top 3 spot and for that to happen they need to claim the full five points in this one. The fact that tis “away “ game is played in their own back yard is a further positive for the Reds who should be able to get the job done here.

Brumbies vs Waratahs – Saturday 22 August @ 11:15, Canberra

The Brumbies return to Canberra off a bye week and a surprise loss to the Rebels the week before that. The hosts will have only on thing on their minds and that’s to return to winning ways in front of their home fans. A win will also serve to secure their spot in the playoffs. The Waratahs on the other hand have two straight wins behind them and will be keen to topple the log leaders.

A Brumbies team at home is a dangerous animal but one has to think Tahs have some good momentum in their favour at present. The home side have made a number of changes to their line-up with Folau Fainga’a, Joe Powell and Tevita Kuridrani the big exclusions.

I think the handicap is just big enough to warrant an interest in the visitors.

BETOLIMP BEST BETS

Force vs Reds

Reds -11.5 @ 1.86

Half Time / Full Time Margin – Reds (1-8) / Reds (13+) @ 7.50

Wincast - First Try Brynard Stander and Reds to win @ 42.00

Last Tryscorer – Jock Campbell @ 15.00

Again I am expecting the Force to start strong but fade eventually. Campbell at fullback could come into his own later in the game when things open up and the defenders are tired.

BET HERE OF FORCE V REDS

Brumbies vs Waratahs

Waratahs +6.5 @ 1.90

Half Time / Full Time Margin – Brumbies (1-8) / Brumbies (1-12) @ 9.00

First Tryscorer – Connal McInerney @ 19.00

Anytime Tryscorer – Jake Gordon @ 3.80

The Brumbies are the type of team who know how to wrestle out a victory on their home patch but I expect they will be pushed all the way in this clash. Fainga’a might also be missing from the pack this week but the rolling maul is part of the Brumbies’ DNA and McInerney should have no problem slotting in and doing the same job for his side.
