SUPER RUGBY AU ROUND 9

The Reds delivered the expected bashing, but we were let down by a poor second half showing from the Tahs in Round 8. With only two weekends of regular games remaining it really is all to play for in Round 9 of Rugby AU. Here’s how I see things playing out Down Under.

Brumbies vs Force – Friday 28 Aug @ 11:05, Canberra

The TMO might have had a bit of eclectic performance last week when the Brumbies hosted the Waratahs yet there was no doubting the dominance exerted by the home team in the second half. The Canberra side has stuck with what worked against the Tahs as they face a Force side who must be hurting after taking 50 from the Reds last week, getting tired of being on the road and also the only team with absolutely no shot at the playoffs.

The Brumbies are well fancied to put the struggling Western Australia visitors to the sword and it’s hard to argue with the bookies on this. The handicap is a big one though.

Rebels vs Waratahs – Saturday 29 August @ 11:15, Sydney

This should be one of the biggest matches of the comp thus far. The Waratahs find themselves one point above the Rebels on the log but with one less game to play (and an inferior points difference). The Tahs fluffed their lines badly last week and now victory over the Rebels is a non-negotiable for them in this clash. With Melbourne scheduled to face the struggling Force in their last encounter the Waratahs have to assume that Rebels will pick up a victory in that game (and possibly even a bonus point to be fair) – thus the Sydney side will be gunning for a big win in this one. In their last outing the Rebels had serious issues in finding their way over the tryline against the Reds.

The “visitors” for this clash have the benefit of playing this match a mere 10km down the road from their regular base at the SCG. It’s tough knowing which Waratahs side will pitch up this time around but for mind the Rebels hold the slightest of edges despite not having the home advantage.

BETOLIMP BEST BETS

Brumbies vs Force - BET HERE

Half Time / Full Time Margin – Brumbies (1-8) / Brumbies (13+) @ 6.70

Wincast – Tom Wright to score the first try and Brumbies to win @ 8.50

Last Tryscorer – Folau Fainga’a @ 9.60

I’m hoping the Force can muster their last bit of fighting spirit for the opening half of this clash and will be backing a touch of value in the HT/FT market. Fainga’a is back from the bench so look out for him to score the last one whilst the tryscoring form of Wright has me backing him for the opener.

Rebels vs Waratahs - BET HERE

Rebels to win @ 1.77

Half Time / Full Time Margin – Waratahs (1-8) / Rebels (1-12) @ 13.70

Last Tryscorer – Pone Fa’amausili @ 58.00

Anytime Tryscorer – Reece Hodge @ 2.55

The Waratahs have at times started fast and then faded so some value in that play for mind just in case the Rebels don’t hit their straps from the start. The barraging prop Pone gets one last inclusion in the playlist here at a juicy price and I can’t leave the try-hungry Hodge off my sheet.
