SUPER RUGBY Trans-Tasman: Friday

It was an interesting first weekend of cross-Tasman tussles. Our treble got blown out of the water with the R&R combo of the Reds and Rebels leaving us with the same headache as the Mozambique version would. In a freakish game in Sydney Aumua came close to deliver a tryscoring bet but it was Akira Ioane who finally came good when I needed it most. Let’s hunt for some more value plays in Round 2.

Hurricanes vs Rebels – Friday 21 May @ 09:05, Wellington

At the SCG last Friday it was the Hurricanes who posted the biggest score of the weekend when they scored 64 in their first innings of the Trans-Tasman comp. In their allotted 80 minutes the Waratahs fought valiantly but were eventually bundled out for 48 in what proved a match worthy of raising a bat as it past the century mark with some room to spare.

Fresh off a cricket-score like showing the Canes will look to add to their ten try-tally as they host a Rebels side who couldn’t even clear the ropes, sorry I mean the tryline, in Week 1 of the dual country tournament. The Canes clearly didn’t have much of an appetite for defense in their first Trans-Tasman outing but they won’t really need to improve much against a team who are about as flamboyant as a 1990 Dutch Reformed “Dominee”.

Betolimp Bets:

On the tryscoring front I’m sticking to my tried and tested hooker plays.

First Tryscorer: Dane Coles @ 11.00

Last Tryscorer: Asafo Aumua @ 11.00

Force vs Highlanders – Friday 21 May @ 11:45, Perth

The poor Perth buggers got desperately close to upsetting the Chiefs last week. That really would have been a scalp worth bragging about but unfortunately Miotti’s conversion was slightly off - like the oysters you have at Bloemfontein’s Ocean Basket. The Highlanders got out the blocks in the new comp like Max Verstappen off an F1 grid and will be hopeful of maintaining good race pace through this weekend against an opponent who is plucky but offers little in terms of creativity on attack.

Betolimp Bets:

Frizell returns to the Highlanders side and I’m ready for a strong impact from the big man.

Shannon Frizell to score the first try and Highlanders to win @ 16.00

Frizell to score 2 or more tries @ 11.00

Anytime Tryscorer: Ash Dixon @ 2.10

HT/FT Margin: Force (1-8) / Highlanders (13+) @ 21.00

Best Bet Double:

Highlanders -4.5 onto Waratahs + 39.5 @ 1.85
