US MASTERS: Thursday 12 November – Sunday 15 November

No April date. No crowd. No Par 3 contest. No problem! There might be a few changes to the US Master 2020 but it is still sure to be the most anticipated golfing event of the year as a field of top golfers converge on Augusta hunting what is surely the most coveted piece of clothing in al of sport – the Green Jacket.

In 2019 we were treated to a fairy-tale ending as Tiger Woods rolled back the years with a Sunday charge to is fifteenth title. But who will be wearing the blazer come Monday morning 16 November 2020? Here is how I see things playing out in the US Masters from a betting perspective.

The Betting Strategy

Given the quality in the field as well as history pointing to the favourites getting the job done I don’t feel it is worth looking at long outsiders to require tailor measurements. My strategy will be to pick who I believe to be the best two players in the field given current form, course form and suitability. In terms of suitability distance off the tee as well as approach shot accuracy are things I put a high value on this week.

In terms of a bit of fun on alternative plays I will look for some value in the First Round Leader market as well.

Who I’m not touching

Big Bryson is the flavour of the year and many are expecting him to pitch up and bomb this course into submission. At his price I can’t have DeChambeau. His iron approaches to me are a bit of a weakness and I think there is better value to be had elsewhere. Dustin has great course form but could be found wanting in terms of competitive action. Tiger Woods and Brooks Koepka are proven performers but nothing has shown them ready to pitch up in 2020 and deliver. Rory always finds himself at the top of the betting boards. Some feel his of course life being order will help his golf but I wonder if the fiery Irishman has lost a bit of that ruthlessness required to get over the line.

To win – Xander Schauffele @ 15.00

In the excitement of Tiger’s triumph it might have gone almost unnoticed that that Schauffele finished runner -up in 2019 after a very tidy display. Xander appears to be one of those payers who saves his best game for the big events and I am expecting him to be in the mix all the way.

To win – Patrick Reed @ 28.00

On a tough golf course it is important to have a fighter on you side. Reed won in 2018 and his game isn’t in bad shape. The one thing you know about Reed is that he won’t go down without a fight.

First Round Leader – Phil Mickelson @ 59.00

Phil absolutely loves it around this place. He doesn’t have the stamina to keep himself in the hunt over four rounds but seems a value play should he get off to a flyer on Thursday.

First Round Leader – Tony Finau @ 33.00

Tony is another big bomber who often plays a few stunning rounds only to lose his way over the weekend. A t this price he is worth a flutter to start strong.

Enjoy the Masters and the late night viewing everyone!
