Football ManCity120Our English Premier League treble for Saturday 21st December includes tips for Brighton v Sheffield United, Norwich City v Wolves and Manchester City v Leicester with the odds boosted by @Olimp_SA

We had no joy with last weekend's treble where only 1 of the 3 picks landed, both teams to score in the Man United v Everton game. However we were on the right track in the other legs as a speculative call on the draw in Wolves v Spurs was only sunk in the second minute of injury time. We also came up 1 goal short of over 3.5 in the Arsenal v Man City match, a game where City could have scored as many as they wanted.

Our record now stands at 3 successful trebles from 5 attempts and our focus this weekend is on Saturday's matches and the odds have been boosted to 7.15

Leg 1 Brighton v Sheffield United

We start at Brighton with the most speculative selection in this week's treble. Brighton are going along pretty well just below half way in the standings and they have scored 10 goals in their last 5 home games including wins over Spurs (3-0), Everton (3-2) and Norwich (2-0) as well as a 2-2 draw with Wolves. They did lose 2-0 at home to Leicester but given the form they have been in it was no disgrace.

Sheffield United continue to surprise and last week's 2-0 home win over Villa saw them finish the round in the top 7. The Blades are unbeaten away from home with 2 wins and 6 draws and they are arguably the hardest working side in the top flight. They will be hard to break down defensively whilst at the other end of the park they have found the net at least once in all bar one of their 8 road trips.

Students of goal statistics will note that over 2.5 total match goals has only arrived in 2 of Sheffield United's away fixtures to date but Brighton are a muchy more attack minded unit than last season and if we get a reasonably early goal it could well lead to 2 more.

Prediction: Over 2.5 total match goals

Leg 2 Norwich City v Wolves

Norwich took an excellent point from a visit to in form Leicester last week but they remain in the relegation zone with only Watford below them in the standings. They have beaten Newcastle and Manchester City in earlier home fixtures but 5 other teams have won at this venue alongside 1 draw and Norwich have conceded at least twice in 7 of 8 in front of their own supporters.

Wolves came into last week's home game against Spurs unbeaten in 11 league matches and they looked like making it 12 until Spurs found the decisive goal in the 92nd minute. It was still an excellent display from Wolves who have won 2, drawn 5 and lost 1 of their 8 road trips with a 0-0 draw at Leicester on the opening weekend the only away fixture where they failed to register a goal.

Credit to Norwich who were considered lambs to the slaughter at Leicester last week but Wolves are excellent on the counter attack where they have real pace and the away win gets the vote.

Prediction: Wolves to win

Leg 3 Manchester City v Leicester City

City had way to much for Arsenal last week but they remain all of 14 points behind Liverpool and 4 behind their opponents here. They return to Manchester keen to make amends for losing the derby (2-1) to United earlier this month whilst other top sides have also scored against City's defence at the Eithad Stadium including Spurs (drew 2-2), Chelsea (City won 2-1) and Wolves (City lost 2-0).

Whilst it was surprising to see Leicester drop points at home to Norwich last week their coach described it as “one of those days” and confidence will hardly be dented given they had won each of their last 8 league outings. They did lose 1-0 at Manchester United earlier in the campaign but Leicester have drawn 1-1 at Chelsea and they were a touch unfortunate to go down 2-1 to Liverpool at Anfield.

With Liverpool otherwise engaged in the Club World Cup this is an opportunity for both these teams to cut the gap at the top of the standings. In what should be a very watchable contest we side with both teams to find the net.

Prediction: Both teams to score
