MANCHESTER UNITED VS ARSENAL, MONDAY @ 21.00

The game of the week takes place on Monday evening between Manchester United and Arsenal at Old Trafford. Both managers are already under fire early in the season, with both sets of fans not happy with the start to the season. Manchester United lost away at West Ham last weekend and were simply outplayed on the day. They needed penalties to defeat league 1 side Rochale at Old Trafford in the league cup and things aren’t looking great on the red side of Manchester. Arsenal completed an excellent comeback against Aston Villa last weekend, even though they were only playing with 10 men. In midweek they gave the youngster a chance in the league cup and thrashed Nottingham Forest 5-0. We have seen some classic encounters between these 2 sides over the years, but both teams have had their shortcomings this season, so what  can we expect?

MANCHESTER UNITED:

Ole was clearly upset after their defeat to West Ham and I’m sure they players received the “hair-dryer treatment” after the game. There was no improvement in the league cup and fans are starting to turn on the manager and players. The biggest change is that teams don’t fear Manchester United anymore and are willing to match them every week and the response from the players have been below par. The Red Devils xGf is 1.7 and xGa 0.74, this shows once again, they haven’t been clinical enough in front of goal and the opposition are taking their chances. Now it’s time for the injury report: Ole confirmed that Pogba, Martial and Rashford are all major doubts for United, but Luke Shaw is likely to feature. These injuries will be worrying and the club may need to count on 17 year old Mason Greenwood to deliver.

ARSENAL:

Arsenal fans might not be totally convinced yet, but the Gunners have continued to produce results and showed fighting spirit that was missing in the past. 2-0 down against Tottenham, coming back to draw and coming from behind against Aston Villa with 10 men to win the game. I was excited about Arsenal’s prospects this season, but there are still some concerns in the defence. It’s always entertaining to watch the Gunners play and they have turned on the style yet again this season. Their only defeat so far against league leaders Liverpool. Arsenal’s xGf is 1.6 and xGa 1.98, based on that they get results even though their performances may have been bad. That defensive expected goals statistic will be worrying for Emery, as he is still looking for answers in defence. Lacazette remains unavailable for the Gunners and Saka or Nelson will need to fill in this weekend.

PROBABLE LINE-UPS:

Manchester United: 4-3-3

De Gea,

Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw,

McTominay, Matic, Lingard,

Mata, Greenwood, James.

Arsenal: 4-2-3-1

Leno,

Chambers, Sokratis, Luiz, Kolasinac,

Guendouzi, Xhaka,

Pepe, Cabelllos, Nelson,

Aubameyang.

PREDICTION:

I don’t expect we will see another classic match on Monday evening and that both sides will have a cautious approach going into this match. Looking at the market, I don’t think Manchester United must be the favourite, but I won’t be back Arsenal in this encounter either. I need to state this: I really don’t like betting on the under market, but I can’t pass up on this one. United are missing 3 of their key players and this stage might be to big for Greenwood to produce. I don’t expect Arsenal to come out guns blazing, as they will be more than happy with a win and a clean sheet at Old Trafford. Hopefully a tough watch for fans, but a winner for under bettors.
