Let’s take a look at the weekend fixtures for Round 10 of the NRL.
DRAGONS vs BULLDOGS – Sat 18 July @ 07:00, Wollongong
The Story thus far
The Bulldogs have had a dismal time of things as they languish at the bottom of the ladder. In Round 9 they came up short against a struggling Broncos outfit. The Dragons on the other hand spanked the Sea Eagles and have shown good recent form.
Verdict
I was surprised to see the early lines for this game. The Dragons have a spring in their step all of a sudden whilst the hole is just becoming deeper and darker for Canterbury. There is only one way to go in this one.
SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS vs NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS – Sat 18 July @ 09:30, Bankwest Sydney
The Story thus far
This promises to be an entertaining encounter. The Knights are a team who have shown they can mix it with the best (last week they came within a whisker of pushing the Eels to Golden Point). Newcastle have only one victory from their last five outings whilst the Bunnies have the exact opposite form guide. Both teams find themselves wedged in the middle of the ladder.
Verdict
On the face of things, the Rabbitohs are the team on the up whilst the Knights are struggling. The visitors have had some tougher opponents to deal with the last few weeks and really should have drawn with the Eels in regular time last week – I am leaning toward the Knights coming out victorious in this one.
MANLY SEA EAGLES vs PARRAMATTA EELS – Sat 18 July @ 11:35, Lottoland Sydney
The Story thus far
The feathers have been well and truly ruffled, as this Sea Eagles side looks lost and confused without some key players. Manly have lost three of their most influential stars and as such it is no surprise that they are currently in a rut – losing three on the trot. Parramatta have at times stuttered and bogged down out of the gate but always seem to eventually find the right key to unlock success. The table toppers have proven a tough nut to crack in 2020 and their consistency has been impressive.
Verdict
The Eels machine might not be humming for an 80-minute performance week in and week out but they know how to get the job done. They should do so again at Lottoland against a Manly side all lucked out and desperately waiting to get Fonua Blake and Tommy T back.
NEW ZEALAND WARRIORS vs CRONULLA SHARKS – Sun 19 July @ 06:00, Central Coast
The Story thus far
Having gotten the “W” over a few lower sides the Sharks were tested and found wanting against the rampant Panthers. The Warriors started with a bang but couldn’t score for the last 70 minutes and finally went down to the Titans in Round 9, preventing them from their first back-to-back victories.
Verdict
Cronulla have only one more victory than the Warriors and have been as inconsistent as their opponents. The Sharks have a touch more class and form on their side and should get the job done but the handicap is a different matter…
PENRITH PANTHERS vs NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS – Sun 19 July @ 08:05, Panthers Stadium Penrith
Verdict
The Panthers are on the prowl in 2020 and another of the struggling Queensland sides will be their target this week. The Cowboys have varied from competent to clueless yet to trip up this powerful Penrith side they will nee to play their best game of the season and probably hope the Panthers finally have an off week. This may well happen but my money is safer backing the boys in black to keep dining out.
