OLYMPIACOS VS BAYERN MUNICH, TUESDAY @ 21.00

Olympiacos welcome Bayern to Greece on Tuesday night looking for their first win in this year’s Champions League group stage. The Greek giants are currently in 3rd place with just one point from their opening 2 matches. While Bayern is top of the group with 6 points and 10 goals score in 2 matches. With the problems at Tottenham, Olympiacos will feel they have a great opportunity to finish 2nd in the group and a positive result against Bayern will be great. The Germans will like to accumulate enough points early on, to rest and rotate players later in the group stage to avoid fatigue and injuries. The Bayern players will know that this won’t be a walk in the park, as the atmosphere will be great and the Olympiacos players will be right up for the game. Another end to end game in this group?

OLYMPIACOS:

Thrylos recorded another victory this weekend with a 2-1 win against OFI Crete to continue their unbeaten run in the league and build some momentum for Tuesdays game. Olympiacos were excellent in their first match and deserved more than a draw against Tottenham, but were below par against Red Star and suffered a 3-1 defeat. Olympiacos will try and slow down the pace against Bayern and try and get them on the counter attack, if they try and play on the front foot like they did against Tottenham, Bayern will open them up at the back. Olympiacos expected goals statistics: xGf – 1.29 and xGa – 1.71, clinical in front of goal, but concede too many goals for the number of chances the opposition creates. This will need to change or Bayern will punish them. Benzia will be missing through suspension and Tsimikas through injury. What Olympiacos will we see on Tuesday? Likely one conceding goals.

BAYERN MUNICH:

Der FCB has failed to win their last 2 league games after putting 7 goals past Tottenham in the Champions League. In their last 4 matches they have conceded 2 goals in each game and Kovac is once again under pressure from the fans. Bayern has been very entraining to watch though, with Gnabry turning it on and Lewandowski still scores the goals. The board wants Bayern to once again compete with Europe’s elite after a few disappointing Champions League campaigns, but that statement win against Tottenham may have silenced the doubters. Their expected goals statistics this season: xGf – 3 and xGa – 0.95, terrifying going forward, solid at the back. Niklas Sule, has been ruled out for a few months after suffering an injury this weekend, but otherwise Kovac has a fully fit side to select from. Bayern will be full of confidence travelling to Greece on Tuesday.

PREDICTION:

Bayern Munich has too much quality for Olympiacos and it should show on the pitch come Tuesday evening. I think they improve at the back and let their front players cause havoc against a slow Olympiacos defence. Potentially having 9 points after tomorrow evening will give Kovac the chance to start rotating in the 2nd set of games in the group stage. I expect Olympiacos to try and get on the front foot from the start like they did against Tottenham, but Bayern will exploit them at the back on the counter attack. Give me Bayern Munich on the handicap.
