Tottenham vs Aston Villa, Saturday @ 18.30

INTRODUCTION:

Tottenham welcomes back Aston Villa in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon. The 2018/2019 season was excellent Tottenham as they secured Champions League football and reached the final of the Champions League in Madrid losing to Liverpool. Aston Villa gained promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs and Villains all over the world will be relieved. Dean Smith was responsible for the massive turnaround at the club and getting them back to the promise land. Aston Villa. There was some unrest at Tottenham during the break as manager Pochettino said that he is not in charge of player transfers and that his job title should be coach rather than manager.

NEW SIGNINGS:

Aston Villa hasn’t held back this summer in terms of recruiting, signing no less than 12 players to improve their squad for the Premier League. These signings include a number of loan deals made permanent and can’t be compared to the transfer disaster of Fulham in 2018/2019. Aston Villa will improve defensively after bringing in a defensive minded players and veteran Premier League goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

Spurs fans already celebrated this season when the club made a signing after 2 years of no activity on that front. They have signed Ndombele form Lyon, who is a very technically gifted player and should only improve their midfield. Just before deadline day they also added young English winger Sessegnon from Fulham and another high rated attacking midfielder Lo Celso on loan from Real Betis.

*Tottenham will be without a few key attacking players for the match: Son and Foyth are ruled out through suspension. Alli, Davies and Sessegnon will miss the game through injury. Dier, Wanyama and Aurier will all have late fitness tests, but can only be expected to feature on the bench.

*Aston Villa will have their best 11 players available, but will be missing new signing Luiz because he has not received his working visa. New defender Konsa picked up a slight knock in pre-season and should only feature on the bench.

PREDICTION:

I expect Aston Villa to be difficult to break down and with Spurs missing a few players in attack I will be looking to the under total goals market for this game. Aston Villa has improved defensively, but lost their top goal scorer Abraham to Chelsea (loan deal expired) and Wesley is yet to prove himself in the league. Tottenham are always excellent on the defensive whey they play at home, but their attacking fluency normally kicks in the second half of games. Spurs missing key players should see a low scoring game.
