WSB Logo Orange 80x80F1 returns for the second weekend in a row as the grid heads to Monza for the Italian GP. McLaren are looking to continue their hot run while Red Bull are hoping to cling onto their Constructor’s Championship lead.

We look at this weeks race from a betting angle and offer a few suggested bets.

CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATE

Max Verstappen still leads the Driver’s Championship on 295 points and the bookies have him as favourite to win trading at 1.28. The only driver with a realistic chance of catching him is Lando Norris who is now only 70 points behind after last weekends win. Norris is priced at3.50 to win the Drivers’ Championship.

Red Bull remain in the lead of the Constructor’s Championship on 434 points however, McLaren have made a massive surge and are now sitting on 404 points, only 30 points behind. Red Bull will need both their drivers to put in their best performances of the season if they want to hold on to the championship and they are still favoured by the bookies at 1.28 with Red Bull 3.50.

Previous Race (2024 Dutch GP)

Last week saw an all-out dominant performance from Lando Norris. In his most successful race of his career, he managed to qualify first, go on to win the race as well as grab the fastest lap. Max Verstappen qualified second and jumped ahead of Norris at the start of the race however, Norris grabbed first place back a few laps later and was too fast to be caught for the rest of the race. Leclerc grabbed the last podium spot in another solid drive after qualifying in 6th position.

Italian GP 2023

Red Bull dominated last years Italian GP, finishing 1st and 2nd and collecting maximum points. Carlos Sainz managed to grab a podium finish to the delight of Ferrari’s home fans while Charles Leclerc finished in 4th place. The Mercedes finished in 5th and 6th position while the McLarens finished in 8th and 12th.

VERDICT

With just nine races left in the season, Red Bull have come under pressure to secure both the Constructors' Championship and Verstappen’s Drivers' Championship. If they don't improve their performances, they risk being dethroned by a McLaren team has nothing to lose and will continue to push full steam ahead. Ferrari, energized by the support of their home crowd, will be eager to capitalize on this advantage and earn some much-needed points.

Leclerc won the Italian GP in 2019 at Monza to the delight of thousands of Ferrari fans. Since then, he has finished 5th or better in every Italian GP each year. He is also coming off the back of a podium finish at last weeks Dutch GP and another podium finish at the Belgian GP before the summer break. He will be wanting to use that momentum coming into this weekend and will also ride off on the huge amount of home support over the weekend.

Suggested Bet: Charles Leclerc, podium finish at 2.50.

McLaren have had either one of their cars on the podium in every single race since the Chinese GP in April, that’s 11 races on the run. Both drivers have been in solid form and do not look like slowing down any time soon. Monza is known to be a very fast racetrack, recording Formulas 1s fastest ever lap. This will fall perfectly in McLarens hand as it seems they have the most powerful car at this stage of the season and I think that Lando Norris will pile further pressure onto Verstappen and a Reb Bull team reportedly at odds with each other behind the scenes.

Suggested Bet: Lando Norris win at 2.15
