BettingDiaryThe Joburg Open returns this week and we take a look at the tournament from a betting angle.

The Randpark Golf Club will play host to the Joburg Open and in a change from previous events all 72 holes will be played at the Firethorn Course this year. Firethorn is the tougher of the two courses and it should prove a good challenge for a field with plenty of local talent but a weaker overseas contingent than you usually see on the European Tour.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout tops the betting boards at 14/1 at the time of writing with Adri Arnaus 18/1 with Brandon Stone, Matthew Jordan and Adrian Otaegui 20/1 and you can get 22/1 and better the balance.

Bezuidenhout finished top 40 at the Masters last week and I am going to take him on given he has had to travel back and also has poor recent form at Randpark.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout 14/1

Adri Arnaus 18/1

Joost Luiten 22/1

Marcus Armitage 22/1

25/1 and better the balance, prices correct at the time of posting but are subject to change

Selections:

Brandon Stone each way at 20/1

Stone has been lightly raced, but he did have a couple of Top 20 finishes a few weeks back. This isn’t the strongest field and unlike favourite Bezuidenhout who has had to travel back from Augusta, Stone has had time to prepare for this tournament and he is my headline selection this week.

Marcus Armitage each way at 22/1

Armitage has been very consistent of late with 4 consecutive Top 15 finishes. It is a concern that he hasn’t made it into the Top 5, but as mentioned above this field is weaker than we have seen on the European Tour to date. Throw in the fact that Armitage has 2 Top 5 finishes to his credit at Randpark and he looks a cracking bet this week.

Jaco Ahlers each way at 50/1

Ahlers is another with good course form and he was 4th in the SA Open which took place here back in January. Ahlers went through a purple patch a few weeks ago with a couple of Top 10 finishes and he has generally been consistent since.

Hennie Du Plessis each way at 275/1

We are getting a monster price on Hennie because let’s face it he is an unknown, but he does know the course and finished Top 10 in the SA Open and back in 2017 had a Top 15 finish at Randpark. His recent form has been a bit hit and miss, more miss than hit if I am to be honest, but at the price we cannot do much damage.
