BettingDiaryThursday is jam packed with betting opportunities and we take a look at some of the highlights in our Daily Diary.

CRICKET

An incredibly exciting Ashes Series draws to a conclusion over the next few days with the 5th and final test starting on Thursday. Australia carry a 2-1 series lead into this final test and they are even money to win the match with the draw 5/1 and host England priced at 16/10.

Scanning down the range of markets one that catches the eye is Steve Smith to be Top Away Batsman at 11/10. We have seen a lot of cricket in our time, but have never seen such a short price in this market and it is testimony to the form Steve Smith is in. The bet we fancy though is Ben Stokes to be Top Home Batsman at 9/2. Stokes is not going to bowl and will be focusing all his energies on batting.

GOLF

There is European Tour and PGA Tour events this week with European action taking place in the Netherlands with the running of the KLM Open, the event is played over the par 73 International Course and Patrick Reed is the 10/1 favourite ahead of Belgium, Thomas Pieters 14/1.

We have two fancies this week namely South African, Haydn Porteous at 45/1 and Englishman, Lee Slattery who is priced at 75/1.

The new season of the PGA Tour kicks off with the Greenbrier Classic and Bryson Dechambeau will be looking for a fast start to the year and he is priced at 14/1 together with Viktor Hovland. Our fancy this week is Robert Streb currently priced at 55/1 a win and 11/1 a Top 5. He has excellent course form with a couple of runner-up finishes, but also showed some good form towards the back end of last season.

CYCLING

Wednesday was expected to be one for the sprinters, but it turned out to be one of the most exciting cycling stages in recent history with the strong winds causing havoc early on and some serious changes in the General Classification.

Thursday by contrast has plenty of mountains and it could be a very exciting stage with some of the teams and riders really looking like they are on the ropes.

We will have updated Classification Betting as well as Stage Winner and Stage Match Betting during the course of the night.

HORSE RACING

Turffontein is the venue for local Racing on Thursday with the Inside Track being used and the first race of a 9 race card off at 12h35 and the last leg of the Pick Six scheduled to go off at 17h20.

Those looking for a banker in the Pick Six probably don’t have to go further than Horse No. 2 in the first leg and 4th race, Marshall, currently priced at 15/20 and from the Mike de Kock stable.

The 6th race run over 1200 metres certainly looks like one to load up on although we do fancy a big run from No. 10, Bold Ellie currently priced at 9/2 and also from the de Kock stable.

Other sporting highlights include the Caribbean Premier League which is for those South Africans who struggle to sleep and you can click here for the betting link and Thursday also sees Varsity Cup Football.

We are down to the semi-finals and both matches are televised. TUT Football are 31/20 against UP Tuks Football who are 33/20 with the draw at 2/1 and UWC Football are 27/20 with NWU Football 7/4 and the draw at 22/10. Both games should be close and we quite fancy the draw double at around the 8/1 mark.
