BettingDiaryGolf and Horse Racing are the highlights for sports betting punters to get stuck into on Thursday and we take a closer look in our Betting Diary.

GOLF

We covered the Open de France in our Wednesday diary and the event gets going fairly early on Thursday, but at the time of writing, Erik van Rooyen the South African was the 14/1 favourite ahead of Alex Noren at 15/1.

On the PGA Tour we have the CJ Cup at Nine Bridges and American, Justin Thomas tops the betting boards at 15/2 ahead of multiple major champion, Brooks Koepka at 11/1 and you can get 18/1 and better the field.

Someone just outside of the top of the betting boards to look out for this week is Rafa Cabrera Bello currently 30/1 for the win and 6/1 for a place. He has been in good form this year and also has a T11 and a T3 finish at this event.

Another player that could go well this week is 60/1 shot, Kevin Na and despite not having great course form, he is in prolific form winning the Shriners in his last start. Na at 60/1 for a win and 12/1 for a Top 5 finish.

HORSE RACING

Local horse racing takes place at the Vaal Race Track on Thursday with the 1st race off at 13:25 and the 8th and final race at 17:35.

In Race 2, Horse No. 2, Tigermil should be hard to beat at a current price of 8/10 and if you are looking for a Pick Six banker then Arnica Montana, Horse No. 6 in Race 6 looks the business at a short price of 9/20. The card itself has more short price favourites that what we are used to and in Race 7, Al Ragnar is a 4/10 shot from the Mike de Kock stable. If both of those short price favourites arrive the Pick Six won’t pay much so perhaps it will be better to try and beat at least one of them.

RUGBY WORLD CUP

There is very little change to the Outright Betting in fact the top 3 are unchanged with New Zealand 5/4, South Africa 33/10 and England 4/1.

The Quarter-Final we want to focus on this weekend is New Zealand up against Ireland where New Zealand are (-12.5) favourites. This market has been stable all week, but personally we think that Ireland are going to give a good account of themselves and like New Zealand to win by under 12.5 points at a current price of 17/10.

FOOTBALL

A quick look ahead to the weekend where we have the Telkom Knockout Cup locally and that gets going on Friday night with Maritzburg United against Wits and we have a full house of fixtures over the weekend.

English Premier League fans will be gagging to get going again and there are some exciting encounters over the weekend including, of course, the Manchester United v Liverpool on Sunday. Liverpool have shortened in the betting since yesterday’s diary from 15/20 to 7/10 and Manchester United now up to 15/4 to win the match.
