BettingDiaryEnglish Premier League Football and Big Bash League Cricket are amongst Thursday’s betting highlights and we take a closer look in our Daily Diary.

FOOTBALL

After a feast of Boxing Day EPL action there is just the one match on Thursday night and it features top of the table Liverpool up against Sheffield United who have been punching above their weight this season.

Liverpool’s home record is superb with a 100% win ratio after 10 matches and they average 3 goals for every one conceded at Anfield.

Sheffield United have been pretty good on the road this season with just 1 defeat, 6 draws and 3 victories and their last away match was a 2-0 loss to Manchester City.

These sides met in the League earlier this season with Sheffield United hosting Liverpool who won 1-0.

Liverpool are 3/2 favourites for this one with the draw 19/4 and Sheffield United 37/4. Looking at the goals markets over 2.5 is trading at 11/20 with under 2.5 at 13/10.

There is also a televised Championship match on Thursday night with Derby up against Barnsley. Derby are 14/10, the draw is 49/20 and Barnsley are 39/20. Derby currently sit 17th on the table and despite being undefeated in their last 5 games, Barnsley are battling in the relegation zone sitting 23rd only above bottom placed Luton on goal difference.

CRICKET

There is a Big Bash League double header on Thursday with Sydney Thunder 21/20 to beat the Melbourne Stars who are 8/10 and after that the Melbourne Renegades are 8/10 to beat the Sydney Sixers who are priced at 21/20. There are a number of Exotic Markets available on both of these games and we quite fancy both underdogs here and the doubles Sydney Thunder on to Sydney Sixers works out at 32/10.

The Australia v New Zealand 3rd Test gets going in the early hours of Friday morning so it is worth taking a look at the betting now and Australia are 17/20 with the draw 4/1 and New Zealand 9/1. A bet we quite fancy is Steve Smith to score 50 in the 1st innings at 11/10.

HORSE RACING

Local horse racing takes place at the Vaal Racetrack on Thursday, a 10 race card starting at 12:05 and set to finish at 17:20.

We think Horse No. 12 in Race 4, Ivalo S Prince is going to be a popular banker and is currently priced at 9/10 to win that race and with some wide open races on the card it may pay to try and get your banker in early.
