BettingDiaryThe Leopard Creek in Mpumalanga plays host to this weeks Alfred Dunhill Championship with the event co-sanctioned by the European Tour and the Sunshine Tour. We take a look at the tournament from a betting angle.

The Leopard Creek Golf Course was toughened up a few years back and the changes have had the desired effect with the last 2 winning scores (-8) and (-14) whereas in 2016 Brandon Stone won with a score of (-21) and in 2015 Branden Grace with a score of (-20).

The fact that the course has changed so much means we can’t look as deep into course form as we normally would, but based on last year’s running we are looking for someone with good iron play and a red hot putter.

Brandon Stone had a solid enough Tournament last week at Randpark in the Joburg Open and he is the favourite this week at 12/1 ahead of Robert Macintyre 16/1, Christiaan Bezuidenhout 17/1 and you can get 22/1 and better the balance.

Suggested Bets:

Pablo Larrazabal each way at 66/1

We are getting a massive price on the defending champion and that is because he isn’t in great form at the moment and is coming off a number of missed cuts. He has had a short break though and his course form is very solid with a Top 10 the year before he won and prior to that a Top 25 finish.

Scott Jamieson each way at 45/1

Jamieson is always worth following when he plays in South Africa and he has had 3 Top 5 finishes here over the years including 2 years ago. He didn’t play last year but he showed me enough in Jo’burg last week to suggest he can go close again.

David Horsey each way at 100/1

Horsey has been a bit of a mixed bag this year, but in amongst missed cuts he has put in some decent efforts. Horsey hasn’t played this event for many years so we don’t have any course form to go on, but in a field of limited quality he looks well priced.

Wilco Nienaber each way at 22/1

Back up towards the top of the betting boards we go and I am going to put faith in Nienaber who will have been very disappointed to miss out in the Joburg Open last week. All of the talk was of this 20 year old’ distance off the tee and he certainly has a beautiful swing and plenty of power. Nienaber was a respectable Top 25 here on debut last year.
