BettingDiaryWith many golf fans still on a high after Phil Mickelson’s victory in the PGA Championship last weekend we head off now to the Colonial Country Club for the Charles Schwab Challenge.

The Colonial Country Club is a par 70 layout and it should provide a very different challenge to what the players experienced at the PGA. While Kiawah Island was far more than just a bombers paradise the Colonial Country Club will have players thinking their way around the course with positioning of tee shots far more important than distance.

Greens in Regulations is always an important stat at the Colonial and it is not surprising that the Top 3 in the betting, Jordan Spieth 10/1, Justin Thomas and Collin Morikawa both 14/1, are all great stroke players with excellent iron games.

SUGGESTED BETS:

Will Zalatoris each way at 28/1

Zalatoris makes his debut at this course, but I was very impressed with his Top 10 finish at the PGA last week and he has some excellent form to his credit this season including a runner-up finish 5 Tournaments back. Zalatoris has the perfect game for the Colonial and I am backing him to adapt to the course with immediate effect.

Justin Rose each way at 33/1

Rose also finished in the Top 10 last week and has been showing some progressive form of late. Always a solid iron player he won here 3 years ago and last year finished 3rd so clearly loves the course and I expect him to go close again this week.

Billy Horschel each way at 60/1

Horschel has been a winner on Tour already this season and he had a solid Top 25 finish at the PGA Championship last week. I don’t believe that course would have suited his game like this one will and he does have some solid form here with a couple of Top 40’s and a Top 20 in his last 3 starts. There is certainly nothing to write home about, but I have the feeling that Horschel is coming to hand.

Branden Grace each way at 80/1

South Africans enjoyed a great week at the PGA Championship although aside from Louis Oosthuizen there wasn’t much TV coverage of them in the final round. Grace threatened certainly in Round 3, but unfortunately faded away on Sunday, but if he can hold that level of form he must have a chance this week at a course where he had a solid Top 20 last year.
