BettingDiaryThe Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii is once again host to the Sony Open as the PGA Tour gets into full swing in 2021.

A par 70 layout, this course tends to allow the shorter hitters to compete on even terms. It is tree lined with small greens and the wind and rough can both be factors and the winning scores vary according to the difficulty of both. Last year the wind blew and we only saw a winning score of (-11), but this year the wind is expected to be low so somewhere around the (-20) should win the Tournament. Greens in Regulation proved an important stat over the years here as has having a hot putter.

Webb Simpson tops the betting boards at 14/1 ahead of Colin Morikawa, who was in contention last week before fading, at 15/1, Harris English last week’s winner is 16/1 and you get 18/1 and better the balance.

Selections

Harris English each way at 16/1

English had a great win last week eventually finishing things off in a playoff and that outing under the belt will surely be an advantage going into this Tournament where he has had 2 Top 5’s and a Top 10, all be it a few years back.

Ryan Palmer each way at 30/1

Palmer has some excellent course form to his credit here and last year finished in the top 5, but he also has a Top 10, a Top 15 and a Top 20 here over the last 6 years. He showed he was in good nick with a Top 5 finish last week.

Charles Howell III each way at 50/1

Charles Howell has become very much a course specialist and he loves this event. Over the last 9 years he has finished in the Top 10 five times with two Top 15’s and two of those Top 10 finishes were a 2nd and a 3rd place finish. He finished last season off fairly strongly with a couple of Top 30 finishes and at a course he loves must have every chance.

Erik Van Rooyen each way at 66/1

This is very much a patriotic punt as Van Rooyen does not have any course form and he hasn’t played the tournament and his recent form was on the Sunshine Circuit and in Dubai where he went well winning at Leopard Creek.
