Le Golf National Course in France is the host to the 2018 Ryder Cup where the USA looks set to start favourites but the Europeans are shortening in the betting.

The USA were dominant at home in the 2016 Ryder cup, winning 16-11 but the Europeans have won 6 of the last 8 Ryder Cups including the last 5 they have played at home.

Le Golf National is a par 71 layout with narrow fairways and plenty of water.  The greens should run fairly slow which would suit the home team, many of which have had a positive course experience whereas the USA have only had 3 players experience the course. This year it was only Justin Thomas who teed up in the Open de France an event played here annually.

FORMAT

Day 1 and day 2 will consist of fourball matches in the morning and foursome matches in the afternoon.  Fourballs is a traditional better ball format where each player plays his own ball whereas foursomes sees players alternate shots and this is a discipline that the USA have tended to excel in.  There are a host of markets for punters to get involved in and below are a few of my suggested bets.

The USA have the strongest team on paper but they almost always do and were this taking place in the US I would be more than happy to take 9/10 on offer about their chances.  There has been plenty of support for Europe this week and the 14/10 has shortened to 12/10 and I am going to get on before it shortens further.

Both teams have strong line ups although there are question marks over certain players but overall I like the chances of Europe given their course experience and also their ability to gel together as a team in these situations.

McIlroy and Rose are certainly the class acts in this market and are justifiably top of the betting boards at 9/2.  I have a liking for two rookies though in Jon Rahm 15/2 and Tommy Fleetwood 8/1 and it is the latter I am going to side with. He has won at this course in 2017 and gives me an impression of a guy who will thrive in the match play environment of the Ryder cup.

There is so much quality in this team but the player I like this week is Justin Thomas who should get plenty of game time.  He is 11/2 second favourite behind Dustin Johnson who is 9/2 and World Sports Betting have a special whereby if your fancy in this market runs second to Woods you will get your winnings in free bets as if your selection had won – see Banner below.  Thomas did come and test out the course earlier in the year finishing in the top 10 and I think that experience will stand him in good stead.
