cricket.proteast20150South Africa’s limited overs tour of Australia concludes on Saturday when the teams contest a one off T20 International at Carrara Oval in Queensland

The Proteas came through the ODI’s with a 2-1 series win. They won the first contest by 6 wickets, lost the second by 7 runs and won the decider by 40 runs in Hobart on Sunday. With the next World Cup in mind the 50 over matches were the main focus of the tour but we finish with this one off T20 in Queensland and we take a look at the squads, the form and the betting.

Australia:

Australia were in T20 action very recently and it didn’t go well as they found themselves on the wrong end of a clean sweep against Pakistan in the UAE. They lost all 3 matches by margins of 66 runs, 11 runs and 33 runs in that series although they did beat a UAE side by 7 wickets on that tour.

In July they also lost the final of a T20 series hosted by Zimbabwe to Pakistan and in June they lost a one off T20 against England by 28 runs in Birmingham.

Australia Squad: Aaron Finch(c), Alex Carey, Ashton Agar, Jason Behrendorff, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Chris Lynn, Glenn Maxwell, Ben McDermott, D Arcy Short, Billy Stanlake, Marcus Stoinis, Andrew Tye, Adam Zampa

South Africa:

The Proteas were not really extended to win 2-0 at home to Zimbabwe in October with the final match washed out. In August they lost a one off T20 in Sri Lanka by 3 wickets and back in February they lost a series 2-1 at home to India.

South Africa Squad: Faf du Plessis(c), Farhaan Behardien, Quinton de Kock, Imran Tahir, Heinrich Klaasen, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Chris Morris, Lungi Ngidi, Andile Phehlukwayo, Dwaine Pretorius, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Dale Steyn, Reeza Hendricks

Recent Head to Head

The most recent head to heads in this format came in South Africa in 2016 and Australia recovered from losing the first of 3 matches to take the series 2-1.

Overall the teams have met in 17 T20’s with Australia winning 11 and South Africa 6

On home soil the Aussies have won 5 to South Africa’s 1.

The Verdict:

Australia could certainly use a win in any format right now but there is little in the way of pressure here and the venue might represent something of an unknown quantity.

I’ll take a very speculative play on Maxwell to be top Aus bat. Whilst the order of the home sides batting line up might be hard to gauge their top order battled against a Proteas bowling attack in the ODI’s and maybe Maxwell will be given enough time at the crease to land the selection at pretty long odds.

Bets: Top Aus bat Maxwell at 6/1 Sunbet
