engodiEngland are 1-0 up on Pakistan as the teams prepare for the third One Day International which takes place at Bristol on Tuesday.

After rain put paid to any chance of a result in the series opener England won the second contest by 12 runs at Southampton on Saturday.

Batting first England posted 373/3. Jason Roy (87) and Jonny Bairstow (51) put on 115 for the first wicket and Joe Root added another 40. The acceleration later in the innings came from Eoin Morgan who hit 71 off 48 balls and Jos Buttler who smashed 110 off just 55 deliveries including 9 of his sides 13 sixes.

Fakhar Zaman led the chase for Pakistan, top scoring with 138 off 106 balls. There were 50’s for Barbar Azam and Asif Ali and Safaraz was unbeaten on 41 at the end but Pakistan had just too much to do despite a very respectable total of 361/7. Pakistan hit a total of 9 maximums and David Willey (2/57) was the pick of the England bowlers.

There are still 3 matches remaining in the series with this match followed by Friday’s game at Nottingham and Sunday’s match in Leeds.

England 4/11

Pakistan 9/4

Verdict:

After a high scoring game at Southampton which saw a total of 22 maximums we look to the total match sixes market again and with the likes of Jos Buttler in the groove, a total of 9 or more looks to have very good claims.
