ausodiAustralia’s tour of India concludes with the fifth ODI in Delhi on Wednesday and after the visitors pulled off a record breaking chase at the weekend, the series is now all square at 2-2.

India won the first 2 matches of the series by 6 wickets and then 8 runs and at that stage thoughts of a clean sweep must have been creeping into the minds of the home team. Australia hadn’t read the script and they pulled one back before levelling things up on Sunday with a thrilling 4 wicket win in Mohali.

India won the toss on Sunday and with dew a potential factor later on, they opted to bat first. The decision paid dividends with Shkihar Dhawan (143) and Rohit Sharma (95) putting on 193 for the first wicket in just 31 overs. They could probably have pressed home their advantage beyond the 358/9 the innings closed on but Jhye Richardson counted Virat Kohli among his 3 victims and Pat Cummins was top away bowler with a 5 wicket haul. India hit 9 maximums in their innings and looked set to seal the series.

Australia lost Finch and Marsh early and they were 2 down with just 12 runs on the board and you could have named your own price about an Australian win but Khawaja made 91 and Handscomb 117 to put the visitors back in contention. Ashton Turner then took Australia home with an unbeaten 84 off just 43 balls. Turner hit 6 of his sides 10 maximums and victory was sealed with more than 2 overs to spare.

This was how the teams lined up for the fourth ODI.

India: Virat Kohli (Capt), Rohit Sharma (vc), Shikhar Dhawan, Lokesh Rahul, Kedar Jadhav, Rishabh Pant (wk), Jasprit Bumrah, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Vijay Shankar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Verdict:

Credit to Australia for fighting back from 2-0 to set up this decider and for a final pick of this tour we pin our hopes on one of their big guns, Glenn Maxwell to beat his quote in the Player Performance market. Maxwell has the capacity to score big runs, there is an outside chance of a wicket if he is given the ball and let’s not forget his ability to take some fantastic catches.
