dolphinst20Sunday’s televised Momentum One Day Cup action sees the Knights host Dolphins in Kimberley, a catch up game for both these teams as the composition of the play offs continues to take shape.

Knights:

The Knights were in action away to the Warriors in East London on Friday and they came away with a 5 wicket victory, their first win of the tournament. They bowled the Warriors out for just 121 with de Lange 3/18 the pick of the bowlers and although they were in trouble in the reply at 13/3 Rudi Second (71 not out) saw them home.

The Knights have played a total of 7 matches and 2 of those were washed out whilst 4 ended in defeat. They remain bottom of the log although the gap to a top 4 play off spot is 8 log points and the Knights have played 1 game fewer than some of their rivals.

Dolphins:

The Dolphins most recent match also took place on Friday and their home fixture against the Titans ended in a 70 run defeat. The Dolphins were tasked with chasing 301 for victory and although they made a bright enough start with a 55 run opening partnership, wickets began to fall and Makhanya’s 55 was their top score.

The Dolphins remain third in the standings, 10 points shy of the Titans but only 2 behind the Warriors. Like the Knights they also have a game in hand on their rivals and victory here would see them go second.

The first meeting between these teams saw the Dolphins claim victory in Durban on the 2nd March. The Knights posted 254/9 in their 50 overs with Second (74) and McLaren (47) the top scorers. The Dolphins were 139/3 when no further play was possible, 22 runs ahead on DLS.

Verdict:

The Knights will take plenty from their first win and if they can go in again they could still reach the play offs. The home side did stutter in pursuit of what should have been a straight forward run chase last time out but the result was all that matters and they get a speculative vote to follow up.
