lionst20The Lions bid to open their account in the Momentum One Day Cup when they host the Warriors at the Wanderers, Johannesburg on Wednesday.

Lions:

The Lions started their campaign away to the Dolphins on Saturday and they came out second best in what was a high scoring match, going down by 19 runs. Despite taking a wicket in the first over the Lions found themselves on the wrong end of an onslaught as the Dolphins rattled up a bat first total of 342/6. Mulder was the pick of the Lions bowlers with figures of 2/52 but his side were very much the underdogs at the half way stage.

Reeza Hendricks led the charge in the chase and went on to score 130 off 117 balls and van der Dussen was next best with 51. However the Lions had too much to do and they now have two home games, this one and Saturday’s visit from the Knights to kick start their tournament.

Warriors:

The Warriors shared this title with the Dolphins last season but they were underdogs for their opening match away to the Cobras in Paarl on Friday. They bowled well to keep the Cobras from stepping on the gas with Sipamla taking 3 of the 6 Cobras wickets to fall to leave the Warriros needing 277 for victory.

The Warriors were equal to the task with Cloete top scoring with a well timed 111, well supported by Breetzke who made 57 in an opening stand of 110. The platform was set and although the required run rate climbed and wickets began to fall the Warriors held their nerve to get up with 1 ball to spare for a 3 wicket victory. Qeshile was another key man with 54 runs and the Warriors head to Joburg in high spirits.

Verdict:

The Warriors once again proved they are dangerous to underestimate in this format but preference is for the Lions to put themselves on the board, mainly after an impressive display from their batsmen in a very tough chase at the weekend.

Bet: Lions to win the game.
