goldlionThe final action in Currie Cup Round 10 sees the Golden Lions host the Blue Bulls in Johannesburg on Saturday

Golden Lions v Blue Bulls, Saturday 16th September, Johannesburg, Kick Off 17:15

Weather Forecast: - Johannesburg

Referee: Egon Seconds
Assistant referees: Jaco van Heerden, Damon Murphy
Television match official: Willie Vos

Golden Lions:

The Lions beat the Griquas 34-17 in Kimberley last weekend and they moved into the play off picture, currently residing in fourth spot. With just 9 points covering second to seventh there is plenty of scope to either improve on that or fall out of contention but the Lions are starting to put it together as regular starters have gradually returned to their line up. The Lions most recent home game saw them edge out the Pumas 29-28 and their only other success this season was also of the narrow variety, a 48-43 home win over the Griquas back in Round 2. Looking ahead the Lions visit the Sharks and then host Western Province and the Cheetahs and they have been cut to 3/1 in the outright betting with WSB.

Blue Bulls:

The Bulls return from a bye and although they are in sixth spot, they are just 2 points behind the Lions and they have at least 1 game in hand on all the other sides bar Western Province. In Round 8 they held on to edge out Griquas 44-42 at Loftus, a game which they led by a 20 point margin at one stage. Away from home this season the Bulls started with a win at the Griquas (51-45), they went down 45-34 at Western Province and they were crushed 51-15 by the Pumas in Nelspruit, a defeat which led to John Mitchell taking over as coach.

Back in Round 3 the Bulls hammered a largely second string Lions side 54-22 at Loftus, scoring 8 tries to 4.

Betting Angle

The Lions have the momentum and the fact they still have little margin for error if they are to make the play offs sways me to the home team here. The Bulls may have won their last match at home to the Griquas but they just held on and I don’t see that as a corner turning result.

Lions minus is the pick.

Bet: 6 units Lions -7.5 points 9/10 WSB
