Stage 9 of Tour de France 2017 takes place on Sunday 9th July and it comprises of the toughest day of climbing so far as the riders take on a route of 181.5 km from Nantua to Chambéry
Lilian Calmejane was the winner of what turned out to be a complex stage on Saturday but there were no changes in the GC with Froome remaining in yellow 12 seconds up on team mate Thomas with Aru third @14 seconds.
What a day this promises to be with no fewer than seven categorized climbs of which three are ranked as “HC”. The main obtsacles are at 67.5 km Col de la Biche (10.5 km at 9%), at 91km Grand Colombier (8.km at 9.9%) and at 155.5 km Mont du Chat (8.7 km at 10.3%). The final climb tops out at 155.5 km riders then descend to a flatish run in of around 13km.
Stage 9 Betting - Winner
Dan Martin 10/1
Note, prices are an early show, approx average at the time of writing and are subject to change.
There were no attacks of note amongst the GC on Saturday but today will see the gloves off and there is no shortage of people who consider this is the toughest stage of the tour.
The descent to the finish is a major consideration although 3 HC climbs on route is a bigger factor to consider as is the team support of the main GC men.
The composition of the breakaway will be interesting but I fancy GC contenders to contest the stage and I will go with Aru from the GC and in case “man up the road” tactics are a factor, Carlo Betancu of Movistar carries the beer monet
Bets: Aru at 8/1
Betancur at 80/1
