froomeStage 5 of Tour de France takes place on Wednesday and the 204.5 km rolling profile from Lorient to Quimper looks the most interesting so far with a number of suited riders looking to challenge Greg van Avermaet for the yellow jersey.

Jersey Update:

Fernando Gaviria won Stage 4 on Tuesday, his second victory of the tour with Sagan in second and Greipel third.

Greg van Avermaet continues in yellow ahead of team mate Tejay van Garderen who shares the same time. Geraint Thomas is in third 3 seconds down and a host of other riders are within a handful of seconds, some of whom are well suited to Stage 5.

The Points Classification is led by Sagan on 143 with Gaviria now just 4 points in arrears.

Stage Profile

So far we have had 3 flat stages and a team time trial but Wednesday takes on a different complexion with the second half of the profile including 2 x Cat 4 climbs followed by 3 x Cat 3’s and finally an uphill finish.

Verdict:

The classics riders including Greg van Avermaet will have been eyeing this stage up and the current overall leader will have more than 1 rival from the Quick Step team eyeing the overall lead. Sagan looks in super shape after 1 win and 2 seconds against the pure sprinters and you can also throw in Matthews of Sunweb amongst others who look sure to bid for stage honours.

Sagan is the man to beat and that will be no easy task but there are so many riders who could give this a real go. Julian Alaphilippe of Quick Step could go really close and his price makes more appeal.

Suggested Bet: Julian Alaphilippe at 14/1
