Aston Villa

After losing 4 matches in a row Villa have bounced back by taking 7 points from their last 3 games. They drew 0-0 at Leicester before confirming Norwich's relegation with a 2-0 home win and at the weekend they won 3-1 at Burnley. Two recent home home games against top sides saw Villa lose 1-0 to Arsenal and 4-0 to Spurs.

Steven Gerrard comes up against his old club, he was in charge when Villa lost 1-0 at Anfield in December (Salah pen 67 mins). Gerrard's team are eleventh in the standings and can move up 1 place if they pull off a surprise win here.

Liverpool were held 1-1 by Spurs at Anfield at the weekend and they slipped 3 points behind Manchester City in the title race with both sides having 3 remaining league matches. Liverpool also have the FA Cup Final to contest against Chelsea at the weekend followed by a visit to Southampton and a home fixture against Wolves before the Champions League final against Real Madrid. City visit Wolves on Wednesday, West Ham at the weekend and then finish up at home to Villa. City are now 1/10 to land the title and Liverpool can be backed at 11/2.

Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 16 league games with 13 wins and 3 draws, they have kept 8 clean sheets in their last 11 league outings.

Recent Head to Head

Aside from Liverpool's 1-0 win earlier in this campaign Villa put Liverpool away 7-2 in 2020/21 and Liverpool won the return 2-1 at Anfield.

The Betting

Villa are currently 54/10 to win the game with the draw at 37/10 and Liverpool can be backed at 0.47/1

A game of 3 goals or more is priced at 0.62/1 and it's 8/10 for both teams to score.

Mo Salah is 33/10 to score the first goal and 0.93/1 to score any time

The Verdict:

Liverpool have played a number of energy sapping games of late but with City having 2 road trips this week victory here would keep the title race on the boil. Klopp's team came flying out of the blocks against Spurs but couldn't get an early breakthrough. I think they will adopt a similar approach here and against a Villa who can blow hot and cold I fancy a couple of goals in the first half.
