Goodforthegame Predictions:

Watford v Spurs (Saturday 18th January)

Watford's resurgence under Nigel Pearson continued at Bournemouth last weekend. A 3-0 win against another struggling side saw them move out of the drop zone and whilst still in trouble, their record of 4 wins and a draw in the last 5 league outings is only bettered by Liverpool.

Spurs lost 1-0 at home to Liverpool last time out and they have now won just 1 of their last 5. Spurs are 9 points behind fourth place Chelsea and the first meeting between these teams finished all square at 1-1.

Prediction: Watford 1-2 Spurs

Arsenal v Sheffield United (Saturday 18th January)

Arsenal remain in mid table after a 1-1 draw away to Crystal Palace last time out, a game they led early but were pegged back after goalscorer Aubameyang was sent off. Despite the recent improvement under Mikel Arteta the Gunners are no higher than mid table as they bid for revenge on Sheffield United who beat them 1-0 in the earlier meeting this season.

The Blades continue to prove the doubters wrong and a controversial 1-0 home win over West Ham saw them finish the previous round of matches in sixth place, 4 points better off than their opponents here. They have won 3, drawn 6 and lost just 2 of their road trips and they are showing no signs of running out of steam.

Prediction: Arsenal 2-1 Sheffield United

Southampton v Wolves (Saturday 18th January)

Southampton are another in form side. Not long ago they were thrashed 9-0 by Leicester in a home game but last weekend they turned things around and came away from a visit to the same opponent with a 2-1 win. The Saints have won 4 and drawn 1 of their last 5 and are 7 points clear of third bottom Aston Villa.

Wolves let favourite backers down when they drew 1-1 at home to Newcastle last week. They still finished the round in seventh place but they have taken just 1 point from their last 3 games.

The first meeting this season finished locked up at 1-1.

Prediction: Southampton 1-1 Wolves

Newcastle v Chelsea (Saturday 18th January)

Newcastle's valuable point at Wolves ended a 3 match losing streak and they return to St. James Park to take on fourth placed Chelsea. Newcastle can be a handful for the bigger teams on their day although they will need to step up on a recent 3-0 home defeat to Leicester earlier this month.

Chelsea had far too much for Burnley last week, coasting to a 3-0 win at Stamford Bridge. They beat Newcastle 1-0 in the first meeting this season and when Chelsea travel we usually see plenty of goals, 25 scored and 19 conceded in 11 road trips.

Prediction: Newcastle 1-2 Chelsea

Burnley v Leicester (Sunday 19th January)

Burnley's defeat at Chelsea means they have now lost each of their last 4 matches and they are just 3 points clear of the drop zone. They have found the net just 4 times in the last 9 league games and Aston Villa and Manchester United both won at this ground over Christmas and New Year.

Leicester's home defeat to Southampton saw them drop from second to third. They have now lost 3 of their last 5 as they bid for a double over Burnley whom they beat 2-1 at the King Power Stadium in October.

Prediction: Burnley 1-2 Leicester

Liverpool v Manchester United (Sunday 19th January)

Liverpool's march towards the title continued at Spurs last time out and their lead at the top of the standings is 14 points plus they have a game in hand. Klopp's team now come up against the only side to have taken anything from them in the league this season. The 1-1 draw at Manchester United in October is the only result spoiling an other wise perfect record.

United had way too much for Norwich last week and a 4-0 home win saw them finish the round in fifth place. They will look to that first meeting with Liverpool and also a 2-1 win away to Manchester City for encouragement although some of their other away form is pretty suspect.

Prediction: Liverpool 3-0 Man United
