Newcastle 2.63/1 Draw 2.58/1 Leeds 1.03/1

Newcastle are getting dangerously close to the relegation zone after a run of 6 defeats and 2 draws in their last 8 matches. They were involved in the only league match of the weekend which they lost 2-0 at Aston Villa, they have just 4 teams below them in the standings. Although they are 7 points clear of third bottom Fulham, the London side have a game in hand.

Leeds are 4 points better off than Newcastle but they have lost their last 2 matches, 3-0 at Spurs and 1-0 at home to Brighton. They also crashed out of the FA Cup in the third round at Crawley and they will be banking on a break from action over the last 10 days or so having the desired affect.

When the teams met at Elland Road in mid December Leeds romped to a 5-2 win.

The Verdict

When Leeds turn it on they are a real handful but they also have a habit of making costly mistakes. Whether shot shy Newcastle are in the right frame of mind to take advantage of any errors is in question and I prefer the visitors to bounce back to goalscoring form.

Leeds to score at least twice gets my vote.

Bet: Away team over 1.5 goals at 17/20

Southampton 2/1 Draw 22/10 Arsenal 1.54/1

These teams met at this venue in the FA Cup fourth round at the weekend and Southampton knocked the holders out with a 1-0 win. Valuable league points are at stake now and when the teams met at the Emirates last month the game ended all square at 1-1.

Southampton were 1-0 winners over Liverpool in their most recent Premier League home fixture and that is the only goal they have scored in the last 5 league outings. They are in mid table, 2 points better off than Arsenal with a game in hand and it's pretty congested around that section of the standings with the Saints just 3 points off a top 6 place.

The Gunners have won 4 and drawn 1 of their last 5 league games and they have kept a clean sheet in each of their last 4 which includes away wins at Brighton (1-0) and West Brom (5-0). Aubameyang missed the FA Cup tie here at the weekend for personal reasons, watch the media for news of his availability for this game.

The Verdict

Both sides will be looking for the win to gain ground on the top 6 but there looks to be little between them and of the 3 possible outcomes in the match result market, the draw makes most appeal. For correct score punters 1-1 is my idea of the likely outcome.
