Leeds 27/10 Draw 28/10 Spurs 9/10

Leeds crashed to another heavy defeat in midweek, 6-0 to Liverpool at Anfield, they have taken just 1 point from their last 5 matches and have conceded 16 goals in their last 4. Leeds went down 4-2 at home to Manchester United last Sunday, they were also beaten 3-0 at Everton and their only point in the last 4 outings came from a 3-3 draw at Villa. Coming into the weekend program Leeds were sixth from bottom and just 2 points better off than third bottom Burnley who have 2 games in hand.

The past week saw Spurs take a huge step forward with a dramatic 3-2 win away to league leaders Manchester City followed by a massive step backwards with a 1-0 defeat away at Burnley. Spurs have now lost 4 of their last 5 league games, also going down 2-0 at home to Wolves, 3-2 at home to Southampton and 2-0 at Chelsea. That sequence has seen them slip to eighth in the standings, 7 points off a top 4 spot.

The Verdict:

Spurs won the first league meeting 2-1 in London but much has happened since then. Meanwhile Leeds are in really poor shape defensively and Spurs should be more suited to their style than that of Burnley.

Harry Kane is an obvious choice to open the scoring and I will nibble at Spurs to win 2-1.

Bets: 1st goalscorer Harry Kane at 37/10

Correct Score Leeds 1-2 Spurs at 68/10

Brentford 15/10 Draw 22/10 Newcastle 19/10

Brentford are another team on the slide after taking just 1 point from their last 7 league games. That point came in their most recent home game, a 0-0 draw with Palace, they were beaten 2-1 at Arsenal last time out and haven't won since they beat Villa here, 2-1 in early January. Brentford are just 4 points clear of the drop zone and all 6 teams below them in the standings have at least 1 game in hand.

By contrast Newcastle are on a roll, unbeaten in 6 with 3 wins and 3 draws and they are just 2 points below Brentford in the standings having played 2 games fewer. A 1-1 draw in London at West Ham last week was a decent point and their only other road trip in that unbeaten sequence delivered a 1-0 win at Leeds.

The Verdict:

The first league meeting between the sides this season St. James Park delivered a 3-3 draw and that was Eddie Hoes first game in charge of Newcastle, although he was in Covid isolation at the time. I'm open minded about the result but don't see e repeat of the goal fest in the first meeting and 2-3 goals in total will do for me, regardless of who comes out on top.

Bets: Total match goals 2-3 at 19/20

Everton 86/10 Draw 49/10 Manchester City 0.27/1

Everton have taken just 4 points from their last 8 league games. Their only win in that sequence came in their most recent home game, 3-0 against Leeds but they couldn't build on that last time out, going down 2-0 at Southampton and they are just 2 points clear of third bottom Burnley.

City are now just 3 points clear of Liverpool in the title race, both teams have played 26 matches and with Liverpool engaged in the League Cup final this week this is an opportunity for City to put daylight into their rivals for the title. Prior to the shock 3-2 home defeat to Spurs last weekend City's league form comprised of 14 wins and 1 draw in 15 outings and when the teams met in Manchester in November City were 3-0 winners.

The Verdict:

I think City will return to the winners box but given they conceded 3 at home last week and Everton are desperate for something, I'll give the home side a chance of contributing to the scoring.
