Man City

City booked their semi final spot with a 4-1 win at Southampton in the quarter finals. They also won 4-1 away at Swindon and at home to Fulham in the third and fourth rounds and then came away from Peterborough with a 2-0 victory.

City set up a Champions League semi final clash with Real Madrid when they drew 0-0 away to Atletico in midweek. They went through 1-0 on aggregate but having made just 2 changes to the starting line up that faced Liverpool in the Premier League last weekend they picked up a few knocks in a physical encounter and their team news will be worth monitoring.

City top the Premier League table and their lead over Liverpool is just 1 point with both teams having played 31 matches. Their only defeat in the last 20 league games came at home to Spurs last month.

Liverpool

Liverpool were 1-0 winners at Nottingham Forest in the quarter finals. Their cup run started with home wins over Shrewsbury (4-1), Cardiff (3-1) and then Norwich (2-1) and they return to Wembley having already won the League Cup final at this venue, edging past Chelsea in an epic penalty shoot out (0-0 90 mins and extra time).

Liverpool had Slaah and Mane on the bench for more than half of Wednesday's Champions League ¼ final second leg with Benfica at Anfield. They led 3-1 after the first leg and at one stage they were also 3-1 up in the return but they lost their focus and the game ended 3-3 on the night with Liverpool progressing 6-4 on aggregate.

Liverpool had reeled off 10 straight wins in the league before their draw with City in Manchester last weekend.

Recent Head to Head

When the teams met in the EPL in Manchester last Sunday we saw a terrific 2-2 draw with City twice in front through De Bruyne and Jesus and Jota and Mane equalized for Liverpool.

The first league meeting this season was staged at Anfield in October and it also finished 2-2, this time with City twice coming from behind.

Backers of both teams to score ? (yes) and over 2.5 goals have collected in 6 of the last 7 league meetings.

The Betting (90 mins)

City are currently 31/20 to win the game with the draw at 9/4 and Liverpool can be backed at 18/10

A game of 3 goals or more is priced at 4/6 and it's 12/26 for both teams to score.

Mahrez and Sterling are both 7/1 to score the first goal and 11/5 to score any time

Mo Salah is 24/5 to score the first goal and 29/20 to score any time

To reach the final via any method of victory City are 8/10 and Liverpool can be backed at even money

The Verdict:

I landed a 2-2 correct score pick in last weekend's league game but the midweek UCL matches have posed a few questions to me and I'm really battling to know which way to go. City's line up is harder to guess than Liverpool's and I could understand if punters hold off till line ups are confirmed.

Still, I need to nail up a couple of preview plays for such a big game and perhaps with City having had a tough time in Madrid this week Liverpool might hold the edge later on so Draw/Liverpool is my call. Elsewhere I'll dig deep into Sunbets exotics and go with the following;

Bets: Half time / full time Draw/Liverpool at 23/4

To give an assist Andrew Robertson? (yes) at 7/2

Player fouls conceded Fabinho, over 1.5 at even money
