Man City:

City had been banging in the goals during this cup run although just 1 was enough in the semi final meeting with Brighton, Gabriels Jesus 4th minute strike being the only goal of the game. City started by thrashing Rotherham 7-0 in a Round 3 home fixture before dishing out a 5-0 hiding to Burnley in another home game. In the last 16 they won 4-1 at Newport and in the last 8 they had to come from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Swansea.

City have already banked the League Cup and the Premier League title and now bid for a domestic treble. At the weekend they clinched the title after a season long battle with Liverpool thanks to a 4-1 win at Brighton and they finished the campaign on 98 points with a record of 32 wins, 2 draws and 4 defeats.

Watford:

Watford’s semi final clash with Wolves was high on drama. They trailed 2-0 before Deulofeu pulled a goal back on 79 minutes and a Troy Deeney penalty in the fourth minute of injury time sent the game into an extra 30 minutes. Deulofeu  popped up again in the 104th minute and that proved to the winner, Watford prevailed 3-2 and this will be their first FA Cup final for 35 years.

Watford had booked their semi final spot with a 2-1 home win over Crystal Palace. That was their only home tie in this cup run which started with a 2-0 win at minnows Woking and was followed by another 2-0 victory at Newcastle and a 1-0 win at QPR.

Watford had a good season in the Premier League where they finished eleventh with 50 points. They did lose their last 3 matches which could well have been down to this cup run but overall they will be well satisfied.

Recent Head to Head

City did the double over Watford in the two league meetings this season, winning 2-1 away from home and 3-1 in Manchester.

City have won each of the last 10 head to heads including 8 league matches and FA Cup ties in 2013 and 2014.

Recent FA Cup Final Results

2017/18 Chelsea 1-0 Man United

2016/17 Arsenal 2-1 Chelsea

2015/16 Crystal Palace 1-2 Man United (aet, 90 mins 1-1)

2014/15 Arsenal 4-0 Villa

2013/14 Arsenal 3-2 Hull (aet, 90 mins 2-2)

2012/13 Man City 0-1 Wigan

2011/12 Chelsea 2-1 Liverpool

2011/10 Man City 1-0 Stoke

Verdict:

With City looking for a clean sweep of domestic trophies you have to fear for Watford here but the underdogs have a shrewd coach and as we saw in the semi final against Wolves, they are not short of spirit.

I do think City will have too much for their opponents but I’ll give Watford a shout of contributing to the scoring in what should be an entertaining game.
