arsenal1819Monday's English Premier League match sees Newcastle host Arsenal and the Gunners need a win to go back into the top four

Newcastle have lost their last 2 matches but they were against the 2 contenders for the title. They went down 1-0 at home to Liverpool and more recently crashed to a 5-0 defeat at Manchester City. Newcastle have 43 points and are totally safe from any threat of relegation and a strong finish would see them end up in mid table, an outcome which looked unlikely during the first half of the season.

Arsenal's 3-0 defeat at Spurs last Thursday followed by another Spurs victory at the weekend has seen them drop to fifth place. They are now 2 points behind Spurs and their goal difference is significantly inferior. If they win here their chances of a top 4 finish will be back in their own hands ahead of a home game against Everton on the final day of the season.

Prior to the defeat to Spurs Arteta's side had reeled off 4 straight wins, 2-1 at home to Leeds, 4-2 at Chelsea, 3-1 at home to Man Utd and 2-1 at West Ham. On the team news from Rob Holding, sent off at Spurs, is suspended and Gabriel is injured so the Arsenal defence will be re-jigged.

Recent Head to Head

The first league meeting this season was staged at The Emirates towards the end of November and second half goals from Saka and Martinelli gave Arsenal a 2-0 win.

Last season Arsenal won both league games, 3-0 in London and 2-0 at St. James Park.

Arsenal have won each of the last 7 league meetings and they have kept a clean sheet in the last 6 EPL head to heads.

The Betting

Newcastle are currently 33/10 to win the game with the draw at 29/10 and Arsenal can be backed at 15/20

A game of 3 goals or more is priced at 0.68/1 and it's the same price for both teams to score.

Nketiah is 7/2 to score the first goal and 13/10 to score any time

The Verdict:

The incentive for Arsenal is huge but the defensive changes could be a factor against a side who could cause them problems if they are in the mood. I wouldn't totally rule Newcastle out and either team to win with both teams to score is my main pick.

For additional interest Saint-Maximin is my choice to pop up any time for the home side.

Bets: Both teams to score and either team to win? (yes) at 14/10

Anytime goalscorer Saint Maximin at 4/1
