The Carabao Cup has reached the Round of 16 stage and Tuesday's night's game sees Spurs take on Chelsea
Spurs were scheduled to take on Leyton Orient in the previous round but Orient were hit by players testing positive for Covid, the game was called off and Spurs were awarded a bye. Last season Spurs were humbled by lower league opposition in this competition, losing on spot kicks to Colchester.
This will no doubt be the lowest of priorities for the club who face a hectic schedule including the Europa League. Gareth Bale hasn't featured since his arrival and Premier League form so far is mixed. A 1-0 home defeat to Everton was followed by a 5-2 win away to Southampton and on Sunday Spurs were pegged back by a controversial late penalty in a 1-1 draw at home to Newcastle.
Chelsea entered the competition in the previous round and they fielded a strong line up which thrashed Barnsley 6-0 at Stamford Bridge. Havertz scored a hat trick and Abraham, Barkley and Giroud were also on target. Last season Chelsea were beaten 2-1 at home by Manchester United in the Round of 16.
Like Spurs Chelsea have also taken 4 points from their opening Premier League matches. A 3-1 win at Brighton was followed by a 2-0 home defeat to Liverpool and at the weekend Chelsea had to come from 3 down at half time to salvage a 3-3 draw at West Brom.
Recent Head to Head
Chelsea completed a Premier League double over Spurs last season winning 2-0 away from home and 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.
Remember prices can be very volatile in this competition as team news has a big bearing. Right now Spurs are 26/10 to win in 90 minutes with the draw at 11/4 and Chelsea are 19/20.
A game of 3 goals or more is trading at 6/10 and it's 11/20 for both sides to score.
In the outright betting to lift this trophy Chelsea are 25/4 and Spurs are 10/1.
What sort of side Spurs would have fielded at Orient would have given some clues as to how they view a League Cup run but as we were denied that evidence the focus is more on Chelsea. That was a strong side they fielded against Barnsley last week and with a number of new recruits still settling in they arguably have more scope when it comes to naming a line up which would look more likely to come out on top.
Taking an early price without a team sheet is a risky business but on gut feel I will go with the visitors to lead at half time and full time.
