Watford return to league action after a thrilling comeback against Wolves in the FA Cup semi final’s last week to set up a date with Manchester City in the final at the end of the season.
As far as the league is concerned they are in mid table with 42 points and aspirations of finishing as high as seventh given they have games in hand on the other clubs aiming to finish “best of the rest”. At home to top 6 sides this season Watford lost 2-1 to Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea, they also lost 3-0 to Liverpool but they have beaten Spurs 2-1.
Of 15 Watford home games 11 have gone over 2.5 goals.
Arsenal were in Europa League action on Thursday and a 2-0 home win in their quarter final match up with Napoli puts them in a healthy position for a difficult return coming up this week.
The Gunners most recent league outing produced a 1-0 defeat at Everton, a result which ultimately saw them slip out of the top 4. There have been question marks against Arsenal away from home. Their away record of 5 wins, 4 draws and 6 defeats does not compare at all well with their rivals for a top 4 finish.
Of those 15 road trips 11 have seen backers of over 2.5 goals collect.
Deeney has scored 9 league goals for Watford, Deulofeu has 7 and Pereyra has scored 6
Aubameyang has scored 17 league goals for Arsenal whilst Lacazette has scored 13
Head to Head
The first league meeting this season saw Arsenal come out on top 2-0 in September.
Watford were 2-1 winners when the teams met on this ground last season
I don’t see Watford being distracted too much by the FA Cup final which is some way off and attaining a finish well into the top half of the log will be a very decent achievement. That could spell trouble for Arsenal who still have work to do in the Europa League after this and the Gunners can ill afford to drop more points here.
This should be a lively game and the quotes in the goals markets suggest we should see plenty. I’m looking for corners and with both teams capable of contributing to the overall tally I will side with 10 or more.
Bet: Total Corners over 9.5 at 0.83
