Spain

Spain were paired with host nation Germany in the quarter finals. It finished 1-1 in regulation time and looked to be heading for a penalty shoot out when a 119th minute goal from Mikel Merino sent through. Dani Olmo had given Spain he lead early in the second half but Germany squared things up on 89 minutes.

Spain were the only nation to emerge from the group stage with a 100% record and they eventually made short work of Georgia in the Round of 16. Georgia took a shock lead but Nico Williams squared things up before half time and second half goals from Lamine Yamal, Fabián Ruiz and Mikel Oyarzabal saw them through with daylight.

In the group stage Spain finished 5 points clear of Italy, third placed Croatia qualified with just 2 points and Albania missed out. An early goal from Ferran Torres was enough to beat Albania (1-0) an own goal was enough to secure a 1-0 win against Italy they put an early marker down with a 3-0 win over Croatia thanks to first half goals from Alvaro Morata, Fabian Ruiz and Dani Carvajal.

France

France came up against Portugal in the quarter finals and a game of few chances failed to produce a goal but France were foot perfect in the shoot out.

France came through their Round of 16 clash with Belgium with a 1-0 win thanks to a late own goal. They had created the better chances but it was a game low on thrills.

France finished as runners up to Austria in Group D. Their record comprised of 1 win and 2 draws and the Netherlands qualified in third and Poland went home. France came through their first group match with Austria with a 1-0 win courtesy of an own goal late in the first half and Mbappe suffered a broken nose. Mbappe was left on the bench for the 0-0 draw with the Netherlands in their second outing but returned for their final group match to give them the lead against Poland from the penalty spot but they eventually had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

The Verdict:

Goals from open play in matches involving France in this tournament are something of a collectors item, they have been solid defensively though and it looks set to be a closely fought contest.

Lamine Yamal has been a regular source of creativity for Spain with 3 assists which made his price to provide a fourth stand out.

Bets: Lamine Yamal to provide an assist in regulation time at 4.75/1 with Sportingbet
