Shakhtar Donetsk take a 2-1 lead to AS Roma for the second leg of their the Uefa Champions League Round of 16 tie on Tuesday night but the Ukrainian side still have plenty to do if they are to make it to the next round.
In the latest outright betting has Shakhtar trading around 100/1 (from 150/1) to win this trophy whilst Roma can be backed in the region of 66/1 (from 50/1).
For this tie, Shakhtar are trading at around 10/11 (from 16/10) to progress via any method and Roma can be backed at the same price (from 4/9).
Ünder gave Roma the lead in the first leg just before the half time interval but they conceded twice in the second half. The stats were pretty even in all departments including shots on target and a healthy corner count which Roma edged 9-8. The referee showed three yellow cards, two to Shakhtar and one to Roma.
Earlier in the tournament Roma edged out Chelsea for top spot in their group and they were unbeaten at home, drawing 0-0 with Atletico and beating Chelsea (3-0) and Qarabag (1-0) and they could certainly use another clean sheet here.
Roma’s last appearance in the knockout rounds came in 2016 when they lost home and away to Real Madrid to bow out 4-0 on aggregate.
In Serie A Roma were 3-0 winners at home to Torino at the weekend and they remain in third place but 14 points adrift of second place Napoli. Their home record comprises of 9 wins, 1 draw and 5 defeats with 25 goals scored and 15 conceded.
Ferreyra (52' minutes) and Fred (71' minutes) were the goalscorers in Shakhtar’s first leg comeback and they also had chances late on to add to their lead. The question now is whether they can reproduce the sort of form they show in home fixtures and the group stage evidence is inconclusive. Shakhtar’s group stage away record comprised of defeats at Manchester City and Napoli either side of a 2-1 win at Feyenoord.
This is Shakhtar’s first appearance in the knockout rounds since 2015 when a last 16 match up with Bayern Munich saw them draw 0-0 at home and crash 7-0 away in the second leg.
In Ukraine’s top division Shakhtar are clear at the top of the log and their away record comprises of 9 wins, 2 draws and 1 defeat with 27 goals scored and 10 conceded.

The goals markets betting suggests a high scoring game although I’m not entirely convinced by that. Shakhtar will try and keep it tight and just 1 goal in arrears Roma don’t have to go for broke from the kick off and hence I will go with 2-3 in total.
Bet: 90 mins total goals 2-3 at 21/20
